I have 1998 Aurora with about 135000 miles on it. I had a coolant leak few days ago. I put some kind of "rediator leak stop with pellets" in it. It did fix the leak, but the temp. of coolant on dash board shows around 210 deg. It used to stay at 200 deg. before. Is this ok? Also, I found some kind of thick sludge in the coolant tank. Is this normal? Will this situation hurt the car? Any sugestion will be apprieciated. Thanks.

well first of all where was the leak located? i dont see a problem wit the tempbeing 10 degreees ova but it's probably a result of the sludge and i recommend a coolant flush cause it sounds like ur coolant was mixed with tha green stuff and that not good it will kill ur water pump and slowly over heat ur car like it is already doing. and sludge is never normal.

Thanks for the reply. The car did ok for about 2 weeks. But now, I have coolant leak again. I can't locate the leak, but it looks like on the driver side of the engine somewhere under the expantion tank, next to the air filter. If that helps!!! Anybody with this kind of problem before would like to chip in??
Thanks.

my car is at tha shop wit that same problem. i didnt notice it but my mechanic did and fortunately it's a small leak but he's changing some gaskets under there. You might want to take it too a mechanic im gwettin mines done for $40 but he's a real honest mechanic so i cant gaurantee the same price but it shouldn't be that much more.

The waterpump is on that side of the engine near the air cleaner. It's likely leaking. I believe there's a cover you can take out of the way to see it. It's not a difficult job but you'll need the "socket" water pump tool available at most auto parts stores. I paid about $16 for mine when I replaced the pump on my son's '96 Aurora.
I wonder if the 4.0 Aurora engine can still use this tool?
