In a couple of weeks, I'll be the proud owner of a 383 stroker. I gave the shop owner the OK to go ahead and start a 383 today.
It's going to have:
-4340 forged crank
-4340 6 inch H-beam rods
-Mahle forged dome pistons (my compression ratio will be around 13:1)
-high volume oil pump
-double roller timing set
-solid roller drag cam (I just told him to get me somewhere around a .640 lift)
-7 quart drag race oil pan
-4 bolt main block
-balanced and blueprinted
I'm using my heads (Pro cast iron heads, 2.08/1.6 valves, 64cc chambers, ported and flowed as much as possible), which are also at his shop gettin new valve springs (probably Crane or K-motion), and my Victor Jr. intake, ported to match the heads.
So now all that's left for me to decide is whether to put "Just Strokin" or "Stroke Me" on my hood scoop, lol!

That would be cute if he was trying to build a fire.
But he's trying to stroke an Engine.

Stroke This is cool, lol.
I could go with "Stroke Me", and in the pits, have Billy Squier's "Stroke" playing, lol.
Thats it??? :grinyes:
Lol. I pussed out when he told me if I went much higher it'd start breaking the main caps unless I upgraded.

Update:
Talked to the shop owner yesturday. My motor should be ready next week! He told me he had the crank balanced and in the block and should have it ready sometime next week. I can't hardly wait! If he gets it to me before Thursday, I may try and take it next Saturday to a test and tune session (man I really hope it gets in the 6.60s and breaks 100 mph in the 1/8th).
All the tracks close to me (except my little 330 ft one) will be open by next weekend. I'm actually going with my uncle tomorrow to Rogersville, TN to try his new set up. Its a wild one: 400 block bored .030 with a 302 (chevy of course) crank and rods. SO, it'll have a 4.155 inch bore and a 3 inch stroke. I think it makes a 325 or a 329 or something. Either way, it should be a high winding engine. I'm interested to see what it'll do. His car ran 6.50s with a 302 and a 6.00 gear and 6.teens with a 406 and a 5.13 gear. I'm figuring somewhere in the middle, but you cant really tell because motors do crazy things when you stroke them! lol.
Anyways, I should have a 383 next week, lol. I'm going to have over $5000 in the bottem end, minor head work (just valve springs), cam, lifters, rockers, and an electric water pump, but it'll be mine and everything up to the intake will be brand new (minus the valves unless it just needed a few).

Well yeah, it is technically destroked lol.
And I was right, it ran 6.50s. Best pass was 6.5238 @ 106.17. That was leaving on 5100 rpms with a 1.4578 60', 4.2078 330', and a 6.1000 594'.
I thought it done really good. It was VERY hot today (like almost 90 degrees) at the track, it was the first test and tune session of the year, and the motor was literally brand new. And then too, his motor has a 3 inch stroke, so its not like its the torquiest thing around, and we kept the 5.13 gear in instead of changing it to the shorter 6.00. Still had a 1.45 60' (for comparison sakes, his 406 had a 1.36 at that same track last year before it bit the dust).
He'll probably fool around and change out the gear this week and then it'll probably run 6.30s. Not bad for about a 329 cubic inch motor, lol.
I'm hoping mine will be ready by at the latest Thursday. That way I can take my car this coming Saturday and see what its going to do. I think I'll probably out 60' him, maybe even beat him in the 330 (be doubtful though), but I dont see any way to have a faster 1/8th ET and I def. won't be able to out mph him. My car just weighs about 500 or 600 pounds more then his, lol. I guess atleast I'll be able to say I got more power AND a bigger motor! lol.

Is there any way you could loose even more weight from your car? You should really aim at beating him.
BTW, how many rpms does that 329 rev up to?

Not without it being a major job. I'd have to buy a new frame.
If he leaves his car alone then it'll be pretty close. I'm thinking mine will be in the 6.60s, maybe even 6.50s, but probably 6.60s.
I dont know how high it would rev. He chips it at 7400. It'd probably stand over 8000 easy.

Damn it, stole my question...
and Im really impressed that a motor that large...and I have to admit I had to use my calculator and a conversion chart to figure out exactly how large the motor is in CC's.
and I am really impressed a motor that size can rev so high...whats his secret?

VERY stout valvetrain and a small stroke.

What he said. Solid roller cam, roller lifters, allum. roller rockers, and roller valve springs (they each have 200 pounds of pressure, or resistance I guess). Short stroke and a balanced and blueprinted engine.
I'm going to chip my 383 (4.030 inch bore, 3.75 inch stroke w/6 inch rods) at 7,000 rpms. And its going to get it too in the water (burnout). The main thing is to have a really good, really precise balanced rotating assembly (crank, rods, pistons). Mine's going to be all that, plus have the strongest steel you can buy (4340 forged crank and rods). And I"ll have a roller cam, roller lifters, roller allum. rockers, and roller valve springs.
I'm going to plan on leaving at 4000 rpms, shifting at 6500, and then having the limit set for 7000. My uncle leaves on 5100 rpms, shifts at 7000, and then limits it at 7400. I may tinker around with my setup when I go to a test and tune session (hopefully Saturday, provided my engine will be done).
I guess another good answer to your question would be how much money you can spend on your engine, lol.
