Speed Cameras? I've heard of ones that take ur picture when you run a red light but not speeding ones.

arent they legally required to post signs warning you about the cameras. They have to do that here in the states (california at least) for the red light ones.

I don't remember where it was that this happened, but it's hella funny.
There was a guy that was caught speeding by a camera. The police sent him a ticket with a picture of his car from the camera, asking him to pay the fine. So, they guy sent the ticket back to the cops with a picture of some money. Then, the cops sent him a letter with a picture of some hand-cuffs. He paid the fine shortly thereafter.

True, you could do that. I know they've got speed cams too... There was a guy here in town (Spokane, WA) who had a 300ZX. He took it in to some shop to have some work done. They had the car for about a week. When he got it back, it had 1000 extra miles on it, and a couple days later, he recieved a picture of his car doing 100+ MPH over the Tacoma Narrows bridge (which is about 300 miles away). Anyways, he took the shop to court and won a big settlement.

What a bunch of bitches. I wouldnt take my car to that shop again. I just got jacked by a shop. I took my car into the shop to have some a/c work done and they say its gonna be $600 to replace all the hoses, and there is no remaining R12 in the system. I ended up paying $60 for that. The hoses are around $100 to replace. So how the hell is the extra $500 justified?!?!? Tell you what, I am going to bert williamson tommorow (local parts store) and getting the R134A conversion kit, the hoses I need, and a helms manual. I should be able to do the shit myself for a lot cheaper than that.

I guess u could just cover the plates but ....... the cops really hate that and will pull u over and check out every detail of the car :(... i know u can mess up the speed cameras by have a few lazer beems over the number plate but it is very very illegal to do that lol :(
i got two weeks wait to find out if im busted ... if i dont here after two weeks i guessill be ok :(

I got an idea, is there any way to make the lic plate light on the back (the one that goes on when you have your lights on) so bright that it would fuck up the speed cam, or do something else with that little light.

I know there were License Plate covers that looked like plastic but would reflect like real well and make license plates show up pure white in photos.

okay well I used to live in Edmonton Alberta and we had photo radar but they were on unmarked vehicles parked on the side of the road. I was friends with this guy and his dad was a cop ... well kind of a crooked cop and he told me that if you drive 180 kph (don't know what that is in miles) the camera wil not have time to react to the radar reading that tells it to take the picture!! I don't know if it will work with the speed cameras you are talking about but I am curious to find out so if anyone has the balls to try it let me know how it turns out!! LOL :D

oh I almost forgot...I heard that if you spray hairspray on your plate it creates a shiny film that will reflect the flash from the camera!! worth a try!?

Probably, I know went plates are brand new and shiney they reflect light real well because I was taking pictures at this classic car show and all the plates turned up pure white since they were so clean.

don't take this the wrong way...but isn't it called the speed LIMIt, as in...don't go over. Now, I speed, I speed alot, but if I get pulled over, I'm ready to take responsibility for my actions. So, if you want to get by those pesky cameras with no hassle, DON'T SPEED! But anyway, I once got pulled over for wreckless driving. I was in my 73 vw bug, lowered, porsche wheels, hi-po motor (1776cc, hi flow heads, dual carbs, full header exhaust) and my buddy and I were goofin' off drifting that night. Well, we were heading to the mall to cruise out in front (maybe impress some ladies, ) and I went to change streets turning left and nailed the S.O.B. hard in 2nd gear. The ass end slid around while I'm at full reverse lock, sideways as ever, through my headlights I see SHERIFF!!! Well, I knew I was busted so I just pulled over. When he gets to my car, he asks "do you know why I pulled you over?" I said, if I don't anyone of the 10 cars around you does. Well, I got my ticket, yadda yadda. The best part, I asked him if he got that on video and asked if I could have a copy. He said "sorry". man, that's my story. Don't you hate it when they pull you over and ask all kind of questions about you car? I do.

MKS if the speed cameras caught you you would have seen the bright flash of the camera. They flash several times when they go off. If it was dark you would definately have seen it.
Covering your number plate in the uk is a motoring offence. If the police see you have done this they can give you 3 points on your license (12 points and your banned over here!) or maybe a fine so I wouldnt advise this.
Given that cameras are only supposed to be placed within a mile of an accident blackspot, the fact that cameras spring up on newly built dual carriageways would beg the question: "Is the government building blackspots into new roads?" . Don't be ridiculous - of course they're not. Those cameras placed on dual carriageways and motorways are there to earn the government and councils money. By their own admission, our dual carriageways and motorways are the safest roads we've got! If they're safe, then the argument about cameras for accident prevention becomes a moot point.
The police themselves often take a disliking to the sheer number of cameras. One of the little-known facts about camera enforcement units is that they have almost seasonal variations. If the number of cameras in an area have netted their council-appointed target figure for vehicles exceeding the speed limit, the enforcement unit will go out and increase the threshold in the cameras so only the fastest speeders get caught. It's to reduce the amount of paperwork towards the end of each month. You don't like paperwork. I don't like paperwork. The police don't like paperwork. Another seasonal variation is Christmas. The central ticket office is generally closed for a fortnight around Christmas so there's no way to process the tickets and fines. The result is often that camera units will go out and simply switch off any cameras for the duration until the central ticket office is back online.

if you ever want to chat vw...e-mail me :). i guess it's no secret anymore that i started tearing a part a '68 (type 3) squareback last month. hopefully the stock 1600 will go back in this weekend so it will at least run for now. over the winter i plan to drop in a 1776 (or possibly an 1835 :D ) so the car is quick but, these fast n furious drones will leave me alone (hehehe). i actually had a 16 year old kid ask me the other day "yuck, why bother with a vw when you already have a honda"...i just thought to myself...what a shame, this kid has no respect or even a remote clue to where (economic) imports started.
i know this was off topic so, i'll end it here.

ps. i just picked up a set of 8 spokes for $80 w/tires :jump: at a car show i went to on the 4th
