Oil Gauge off the scale

The oil gauge on my 2004 Z-71 1500 Sierra is registering off the scale. When the truck is turned off, it registers just below the "80" mark and when it's running, it's all the way to the right (clock-wise), so I guess it is functioning. It seems to be lowering a little as time goes on, but is there anyway to adjust this back to zero when the truck is turned off, or is the gauge beyond hope needing replacement?

I think I'd try a new sender first because of experience of this type. But also easier to replace than to mess with the gauge.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind, but now it's working fine:screwy: . Kind of like someone said, "Heal Thyself", and it did. I'll keep an eye in it.

One more thought, if the wire is loose on the sender it will either go to the top or to the bottom of the gauge. I forget which but this was a test of the gauge.
In other words, if the wire is off, the gauge goes to either the top or the bottom. If the wire is grounded the gauge goes the other way.
So you might check the wire where it connects to the sender.
