I know that I promised a website up about a week ago but I got busy with school and didn't have time to get ruby working.

I've since registered the domains dsm-one.com and dsm-one.org if we want .net let me know it's not much extra of a cost.

I was thinking about dsmone without the dash too but then you start getting really expensive.

I have a site sitting on my computer. Sunday night I'll take some time out to setup the databases, all email and forwarding for those domains. Hopefully by late next week we should have a functioning site up.

What I do need however is for someone to finalize and htmlize one of the layouts that were shown in the old dsm one thread. Once I have that I can throw that in my code for the site.

This is going to take some work but we are at least started now.

http://www.clipsekid99.com/other/layout2.jpg I'm liking this one, cause it combines both my ideas, and your ideas, crow.

Well if thats the one that we are gonna use then, all my coding needs is the login part and the updates column on the right side. Everything else seems to be in place... I'll add the stuff it needs tonight and when you guys are ready for the entire site just let me know and I can upload it to wherever we need to. Nova is gonna have to add the coding to make the login and search fields actually work though. I really do need to learn how to do that part sometime...

yeah ill have that code taken care of. I just needed the layouts because I suck at tables + graphics....

Another feature I thought would be cool would be like if we listed a mod section users code mark mods as things they would want to do in the future. Just a thought. I think it's trivial to implement but I plan on getting the base stuff up first.

Oh yeah, can you gimme a list of all the links you want on the left side bar? I was just lookin at that part and wondered what all needed to be there...

Another bug I wanted to work out of it too was the header. I was told that some people saw the header repeat as if it was tiled? On my computer and all the others I checked on it appeared correct, but I wanted to find out if anyone else had this tiling problem and what your screen resolution was set to.

on firefox in linux I had no problem viewing the header. Same thing with mozilla and firefox on solaris. It was fine on my sisters mac with it's browser too..

I don't have access to any windows machines really. Funny thats mostly what everyone else has access to...

Anyway uhm side links...

I guess quick links ot the following

Admin (this will only show if they are an admin)
User Area/Post Article (I dunno what it should be called)
Maintainance
Interior
Exterior
Engine
(the following would pop out when engine is clicked)
- Intake
- Turbo (includes intercoolers and bov so may need another name?)
- Exhaust
- Fuel
Suspension
Audio
Forums (link to here)
Vendor List

Those links at the top I think would be links to the types of engines then that are in the cars like quick links. I think the front page should allow you to click on the type of car you have like picture wise and it tell you basic facts, (engine, hp, weight, options for years, and changes) kinda like the 1000q page does.

I like what 1000q and vfaq does I just think it needs better organization and images that are local to the sites. Because when external sites go down you loose that information.

Right, if we are gonna do this then we need to make it a collective database so that we don't run into those kinds of problems... Umm, I can get the whole layout together with the images and such if you want me to and then all we will need to do is collect all the data for the site. For the "user area/post article" section, will it work if we make that "submit Article"? I figure it would be best that we review anything before its posted so we don't end up with 10,000 newbs posting a bunch of BS... Thats just my thought on it though. I think it would be a little bit more work but well worth the organization and authenticity of the articles and their facts.

As for the header issue. I checked it on Windows 2000 and XP Pro with resolutions from 640x480 - 1600x1200 in Internet Explorer and Firefox and I had no problems at all... I wish I knew what the people were running that were having problems with it... See, I have the header image in a set sized table as the background image so that I can have our links and search bar and such overtop of it. So, I really can't see any way that it would tile itself as I am very careful about my layouts... I'll get it posted again sometime this weekend for some more beta testing. I had to take it down because for some reason I kept going over my bandwidth limits and Geocities kept shutting me down and I needed that free web space. lol But, as soon as I get my new .com this weekend I'll upload it again and post it on here for you guys to check out the altered layout...

Oh yeah, that update column on the right side in Clipsekids design... Did you want me to include that then too? Also, the Login and Password field above or below the left columns links?

yes as far as the recent updates goes. I have that coded.

If it's add article thats fine. Right now how it works is users can add articles. they sit in a queue till an admin (someone from on this board most likely) approves them. Then they appear on the site.

If you want to edit an article you can go to an article and click edit. A user can then make notes on that in a seperate box on what to add, remove, or change. It goes to an edit queue. Admins can look at this queue and when they choose an edit to review they are shown the comments made (uneditable to them) and an editable copy of the article which they can then hack up.

Only an admin can delete an article and thats by navigating to it while logged in and then they are prompted with a delete button (only if they are admins)

it uses cookies to maintain sessions. So you need that enabled.

The vendor links page will be static text that we can add to if someone emails us.

One thing I havn't worked out yet is if (and i think this is a yes) an admin looks at an article and decides he doesn't know much about it so he wants to wait for someone else to review (I think we need this)... and how I implement that. I think it just adds another step where if you click edit approved it makes the edit else it doesn't modify the queue. I just didn't get there yet.

Ahh, Ok. Well, as for the vendors list... I am part of the creation for another DSM site that is based on advertising for anyone who is involved with DSM parts and/or services. As of right now, its still being constructed but the launch date is set for sometime in the next few months. It won't be large at first, but the goal is to become the largest source for all DSM related vendors. I know it won't be an immediately large site, but we could always link our vendors list to that site when its finally online.

Anyways, I do like how you have it setup that only Administrators have the right to approve new posts. Thats pretty much how I was hoping it would be set up.

So I'll finish getting all the pages designed and then your gonna take care of the pages involving posted articles? Do you just need a blank page of DSM-One so you can code it for the articles to be posted?
