99Taurus wiper lever

Wipers on wifey's 99 Taurus are turning on by themselves, and sometimes when she turns on turn signal. I'm thinking the switch in the signal/wiper lever is bad. Is this tough to replace? Can a schmuck like me replace it? If so, do I buy an OEM or aftermarket unit? I'm also wondering if this could be related to her headlights (daylights) blinking off/on during the day. At night they work perfectly, but during the day they start blinging like they don't know whether it is day or night. Now....if I turn the headlight switch on at the dash...they stop blinking....day or night....bizzarre. Any thoughts?

That multi-function switch isn't too hard to replace, I think you have to remove the igntion lock cylinder, don't forget to disconnect the battery ground cable, let it sit for a few minutes to drain the airbag power supply just to be safe before you start digging around the steering wheel,, there is a module for the daytime running lamps, it could be faulty...

Thanks for the reply TK.
Couple more questions....
How do you remove the ignition lock assy.? Do I need a special tool? Also, where is the module for the daytime running lights located? Thanks again.

Drl module is located, I think, on the frame down below the radiator, you may have to remove the rad deflector, couple of screws holding it,, be careful it may be hot, as with any electrical work, might be good idea to remove battery ground cable... ignition cylinder, to remove turn to run, there will be a small hole underneath column, I think a 1\8" wire pushed in will release the lock, someone else may have more info.

The DRL module is located behind the driver's side (US models) headlight. There are a few other posts on this forum that discuss the DRL module and where it's located. You may want to search the forum for "DRL" and/or "Daytime."
