I just bought a 2002 Blazer Extreme and had it for about 4 days. I hadn't even had enough time to run a entire tank of gas. My car has 4.3 Liter Vortec 57,515 miles. It has a 3 month 3000 miles warranty.

Something was ratteling in the front passenger side area. And the service engine light came on. So I take it to get it looked at.

This is a list of everything wrong with it.

Thermostat
Front Hub and Bearing
Front Socks
Balls Joints
Gear Box

The added collant and aligned the front end.


Now only half of this was covered on my warranty and remember I had only had this for 4 days. They told me that everything that wasn't covered on warranty would run me 660 dollars. We complained and they did fix it for free. Do you think we had the right to through a fit??

Not just Yea, But Hell Yea!!!!!!. They should of done this inspection and repair the faults before they put it up for sale.

Yes you have a right to bitch. It should have never gotten off the lot with all those problems. IMO

Absolutely!! You bought the vehicle expecting to get a vehicle in good operating condition. They failed to meet their end of the deal. Seeing as you only had it for less than a week you had every right to get the repairs done at no cost. Had they not done the repairs you would have had the right to pursue recompense under Lemon Laws.

Its a good thing that you did that, I did not when I bought my blazer. Now I have to deal with broken power windows, ABS, 4wd, Door Locks, and rear windows. If I stood up like you did, I wouldnt have had these problems.

I really don't know how each jurisdiction handles this, as each province and state has different laws. In Ontario, Canada, you have what is called a safety inspection. When you buy a vehicle here in order to register the vehicle you are required to take the vehicle to a government certified inspection station, where it is to be looked at for any safety defeciencies. It cover all major safety components, from a headlight, to brakes, wheels/tires, and any suspension parts - just things that would hinder a person in the safe operation of the vehicle on the roads. It doesn't cover any engine, transmission, or any interior problems. In this case the hub bearing, shocks, and ball joints are all expected to be changed if they fail an inspection, because they could hinder a person from operating this vehicle safely. After the mechanic issues you a safety, he is liable for 30 days from issuance of the safety inspection. If any problems arise with these parts before the 30 days are up, it would be very difficult for a mechanic (or the person issuing the safety inspection) to ignore you because he could loose his licence and be heavily fined. Usually you buy a vehicle with a safety included in the sale(or also called certifacation). You can buy the vehicle AS IS too, but all problems must be disclosed at time of sale by the seller, in writing, or they are still liable. I really don't know what laws or rules you have in your state, but it might be worth taking a closer look, and good luck, I hope it works out for you.

Broken ABS is a safety issue........ How long is the seller liable for if they did not disclose it?
