1987 mustang gas gauge problem

does anyone know if i can bypass the little circuit board on the back of the cluster. the gauge works if i bypass it(the circuit board) but im not sure if the circuit is just for the low fuel light or if it is used to isolate the sending unit from any kind of power.any help is appreciated. tom

My gas gauge was messed up as well, I just lived with it. Reset the oddometer, and counted the miles. Not sure about the by-pass, but if it does work when you by-pass it, I would just by-pass it and be done with it. Like you mention, more than likely its for the low level.
