Anybody have an oil pressure gauge on a 3.8 SC? My low press. light kept flikering at idle in gear only after warm up. So I put on a gauge. The only thing I can find about pressure says 60+ @ 1850 rpm, doesn't say cold or hot. I have better than this when cold, but after warm up it goes down to 12 at idle in gear. Should I replace the pump? Or is this the norm? Have an 89 with 3.1 it never goes below 22 or so.:screwy: I should add that it is around 20-25 psi when warm at 1850. And this is a new mechanical gauge not a factory one.

What is your oil pressure at 1850 when the car is warm? You only mentioned what it is at 1850 when cold and then mentioned it's at 12psi when idling and warm.
Oil pressure, for a number of reasons, will always be greater when cold. I would say that what needs to be done is replace the oil pressure switch and then see how it behaves after that.

A minimum safe oil pressure is approx 10psi per 1,000 rpm. Anything less and you're risking engine damage.
