Originaly posted a few weeks ago : "I know there is a post about this and I checked it out but this is a different ticket with different circumstances. Alright, I'm going down a highway and I was trying to catch up to a friend. The speed limit was 55 and my ticket says I was doing 81 (26mph over, ouch) . Needless to say he through the book at me . He pulls me over and walks up to my window and says come sit in the cruiser. So I get out and give him all the nessessary info. He then proceeds to rip my ass because he though I was trying to get away from him because he flipped around and was stuck behind a truck and couldn't catch me and I then pulled over into the hospital. After explaining to him that there was no shoulder to pull over on and that he didnt even have his lights on yet he then asks me to sign the ticket. I asked him (since I was in his cruiser) to see the radar he picked me up on and he says he doesn't have it. He then tells me he won't let me go out of his car until he can call my parents. I say to him " No, i'm going to call them and let them know." So we somehow debate this issue on whether or not he can hold me there until he calls my parents. Eventuall he tries but they dont answer. He then accuses me of lying to him saying that I gave him the wrong numbers. Anyway he ends up finally letting me go with a $244 speeding ticket. ANY advice on this situation would be GREATLEY appreciated."

Alright, so today I go into the courthouse to the prosecuting attorney to ask for a plea bargain. She offers me 2 points off my license instead of 3. Should I still take this to court considering with what happend above ^? I later call back and ask if the fine will be reduced since it would go under a 70mph in a 55 instead of an 81 and she turns into a she-devil :evillol: . She rips me a new one and I stay polite through though the whole thing and she says no. I told her it was just a question and I want to get my facts straight so that I can discuss this with my parents. Anyway, what do you think?

A. Never ever ask to see the radar that will just piss him off BUT if he doens't have one then he wouldl have to be behind or in a speed trap to tech right you a speeding ticket for a specific mph. He could right one for 5-10-15 over if u apperad to be blowing by ppl. Or atleast that is the way it is down here.

Take the reduction in points. THe fine doesn't matter...but get as many points off as you can. You wont have any luck in court. You are a minor, and teh officer and the procescution already are irritated. The judge will side with them. And even more so, you really don't have a leg to stand on, because the cop didn't do anything wrong.
Basically, if you go to court, just like everybody else, the judge wont give a damn, and will give you the full brunt.
You always plead not guilty, get a plea bargain and take it, unless you have an actual case...which as far as I can tell, you do not. Sorry, but that's reality. 26 over may in your area be considered wreckless driving, at that point, if you are under 18, the cop can hold you in his car all the way to jail if he so desires, even if you aren't 18. Basically it is up to his descretion. Asking to see the radar wont help, especially if you are already in the back of his car.

Definately go for the reduction, I reealize its tempting to argue with them but consider the fact the they dont like you, AND you have absolutely no power in that situation... It sucks and your going to be pissed because its just not quite fair, but as far as traffic tickets go, judges always side with the cops, your charisma (if you have any, and youd need a ton) only helps you with more serious charges in my experience, with those you can try to get the judge to think your an outstanding young man in the wrong place, but not with traffic violations....

gay but good luck to you
(Also in va at least it looks really good and is good for insurance if you take a driving class before your court date... I STRONGLY recomend it):2cents:

Points points points. You're not going to win anything. As I believe we stated in the other thread.

Pay it and consider it a lesson learned. 81 miles per hour in a 55 zone because you're chasing your buddy isn't just speeding, it's reckless endangerment of everyone else on the road. And you were caught and punished..you're lucky you didn't get killed.

I know I was caught and shouldn't have been driving that fast in that zone but there were no other cars around me and I was only going 81 in a 55 (seems like a lot but not really when compared to how often people do a lot more than that). I'm thankfull for everyday I have but I wouldn't say I cheated death. Check out the street racing forums, you would have a fit from the stories over there.

Lighten up, man. I'm sure he's already considered the ramifications of his actions, and he just came here for advice on his ticket. If you want to bitch at him, send him a pm.
