taurus speedometer needle flailing

I just posted a similar thread under the escort listing, so I'll abbreviate here. 93 taurus speedo needle was flailing around, cable was lubed, no change. Took it out in a couple hours, on a warm day so I wouldn't crack the panels. Couple of drops of oil in the obvious spots that could have been causing drag (it's a very open design) and it's been fine since. Saved $200+ and a drive of a hundred miles to Phoenix (no speedo shops in town) plus sitting for 3-5 hours at a shop. Hope this helps, the speedo shops said they were very familiar with the problem so I imagine it's pretty common.
