97k isn't much millage at all!
Why dont you get a 93 and up supra? Their body is so much nicer and more appealing than other cars. The older supras look too much like other cars like a 97 240sx....and such.
86 supra...i would say its a bit too old for todays world...heh. Mostly, any car around year 95 is the best looking and best performing. Example? Ferrari F50, Supa 95-96 TT 6 Speed.
Peace:)

To answers your questions the best i can unlike the other people, the mk3 supras are great cars...
They have the 7M-GTE in it, they make Turbo and NA. Turbo makes 230hp and the NA nakes 200. I am also looking at these cars to buy, I asked a guy the other day he said it would last well over 100k in milage with proper care.
The MKIV's (93-98) are extremely expensive in good condition and low milage, they go for about 25-40k. Yes they do look nicer and are faster but if you want a supra and you dont have that much just get a MKIII, they can be made very fast and are reliable for the most part.

There were two Supras available in 1986. The older MA67 with the 5MGE 2.8l DOHC 12-valve motor (162bhp), and the newer MA70 with the 7MGE 3.0l DOHC 24-valve motor (200bhp). The turbo 7MGTE was not available till '87. These are nice cars, though. My old 86.5 MA70 had 230k miles when it got hit :( and still ran strong. The headgasket is a problem on these if they are overheated. The older MA67's are quite fun as well. The 5MGE is nigh-bulletproof and a rather well-rounded engine. It is not as fast as its newer counterparts, but it is light and fun to drive. Check out its history, though. 97k is very low for an 86. My old 86.5 only said 95k on the odo when I bought in 96. Turns out it had been rolled back and actually had 165k!

kudos to whatawookie, the mkii is a much better handling car with the right springs, wheels and joints. its very easy to put a 6mge moter in and still produce 200(bhp) like the 7mge without all the conversions to it. for a lil oomph and good handling i would say get a mkii. but its hard to find int and ext parts for these cars. the mkiii's are very easy to find.
if your in the market for a mk3 i know a guy thats selling a 91 with 75k oring miles, and have the papers to proove it. hes askin 6k for it, the int and ext are in great condition. the head gasket won't need to be replaced for a good 60k more miles.
good luck and good hunting man

Hmm I think your response is a bit late. This thread started in 2002. The poeple who were asking probably already had their supra for 4 years now. Please check the dates next time.
