i dont have much money right now, but i'm trying to save up to buy a talon/eclipse...

my question is:
doesnt one model have a chrysler engine in it?...

which is more reliable for a daily driver- Eclipse or Talon?

I can only afford 1990-95, so which of those years would be best for me to buy?

the eclipse and talon are IDENTICAL MECHANICALLY

the eclipse GS and RS and talon ESi all had the "chrysler engine" from '95-'99

All talons and eclipses had mitsubishi engines from '90-'94

again, being identical mechanically, their reliability will be the same

its funny because some ppl are telling me that maintaining a turbo eclipse/talon is very expensive and that I should get an RS/GS, especially with my budget (student)

but you are suggesting that i get a turbo car....why is it that u think 90-92 are cheap to buy and maintain while other think the opposite?

They aren't cheap to maintain if your replacing things with performance parts, but you can buy one for fairly cheap. As long as you take care of it and aren't upgrading a lot it can still be cheap to keep.

The 420a motor is a cheap motor to maintain. You don't have to worry about crankwalk (known for on the 7-bolts), no turbo problems, vacuum leaks, boosting problems... and so on. Of course, just like any engine, the 420a will require the basics, and things will go wrong. Just this last year I've replaced, I think, 5 sensors and now I'm redoing my EGR system. They have their problems. But the way I see it, is that you fix the problems now and pay now, then not have to worry about it in the future.

If you want cheap power, I would say go with a turbo. If you're on a budget (like me) and really don't want to mod your car, and not worry about being a 12 second car, go with a 420a. You can get a 95-99 rs, gs, esi for about 2k-2k depending on miles and condition. I got my 95 esi for 4k with 79000 miles. Kinda high price, but I didn't know better then. Now YOU do.

Very true. I would think the nonturbo version would be better for you. plus the n/t can be considerably cheaper.

I bought my 97 eclipse rs with approx 120K miles (speedo broken) for $1500. And that eclipse was hooked up like a bitch. Rims, lowered, performance parts, everything...the whole nine yards. The one in my sig pic is the one that I am talking about.

Just keep your eyes peeled.

What are you looking for out of the car? If you are going to want any sort of power at all, get a turbo car. If you want gas mileage and reliability, get a N/T. Simple as that.

i want both performance and good mileage...

i just really like the concepts of turbo cars, just the control that you can have with the boost controllers and great stuff like that, but i am also VERY interested in great gas mileage...

right now, i really want a 1G gs-t/tsi, for around $2500, but i also really like 2G ESI/GS, but then again those dont have much performance to them...

very confused right now with what ppl are telling me....

ppl are making me worried about many problems with turbocharged cars while others are saying that they are very reliable...

Turbo's can be reliable, but most are not. They are pretty high strung to not break shit every now and again. In your shoes, I would get a non turbo. If gas milage is a big issue, chances are buying parts will be too and believe me, you will need replacement parts.

Not in your price range my friend. Get a N/T.
