I have a 99 Grand Prix GT/coupe. My keyless entry stopped working, so I put a new battery in the remote, still no luck. I then pulled the MALL PGM fuse, went into programming mode (OFF-ACC-OFF) and held down LOCK/UNLOCK for 14 seconds. I tried this several times, but still can not get the remote to work. Any suggestions? When I go into programming mode, I get a series of chimes 2-8-2. I read on another thread that this was the way to reprogram the remote for an older Grand Prix, but it has not worked on mine.....any help would be greatly appreciated........Kevin

1 Get in car and close all doors.
2 Pull the “mall pgm” fuse.
3 Insert key and turn ignition to ACCESSORY. (back 1)
a. Listen for bell(s).
b. Turn ignition off and quickly back to ACCESSORY.
4 Open and close door.
a. Should hear 1 bell to confirm diagnostic mode.
5 Press and hold both the lock and unlock buttons on the RKE transmitter.
a. Hold buttons for approx. 15 seconds.
b. Bell should chime after 7 seconds, continue to hold for second bell.
6 Repeat step 5 for each transmitter. (max 4) (1 bell after 1st transmitter.)
7 Turn ignition off.
8 Replace “mall pgm” fuse.
9 Open Doors.
10 Test transmitters
NOTE: Have all of your remotes on hand when starting this process. Resetting one will cause all others to not function. You must reset all devices at the same time.

I have the same car, and the only way I could get them to program was to have another person pull the fuse for me. I'm only 5'9", and the stretch to the fuse box was too far. I'm not sure if there is a sensor that detects your weight in the seat or not, but every time I tried it by myself, it would do the same as you describe. As soon as I had my wife pull the fuse, keeping all my weight in the drivers seat, it programmed with no problem. Just my :2cents:
