I looked in the 1000 question already asked but I couldnt find the answer to my question. My question is, what kind of engine is in a 1997 gsx? Is it the 4g63?

Im in the market for a GSX becouse I want and Evo but I dont have enough money to get one. The next best thing, I can get and 2004 Evo engine for around $2500. Drop that in the GSX and make my own Evo, just way cheaper.

First off no you cant and second why would you want to? The evo motor is 180 degrees off of the gsx 4g63 and they are esscetially the same motor so why would you even think about doing that

Yep, same engines dude. I would suggest a first gen from (90-92), much cheaper plus they can take you farther with the stock stuff. Plus you dont have to worry about the 7 bolt crank walkin on you.

I was planning on rebuilding the engine that came with the car. Then I saw that engine. I can live with just rebuilding. I didn't know it was 180 degrees off. To tell you the truth, I don't know about anything Mitsubishi. I just figured that it was the same motor that it would fit. I saw a good prise on a Evo motor and figured I would go that route.

Sorry, wont work. Like thor06 said, get a 6 bolt motor(90-93.5) they are a good starting point and will handle upwards of 450hp with stock internals

what is the difference between the 6 bolt and 7 bolt? The 95 GSX comes with a 7 bolt? I saw this motor for $2000 for a brand new short block.

I'm going to look at a 95 gsx this weekend. with 99k miles with a clean tittle in percent condition, inside and outside. and a women is selling it. thats a plus because most women dont abuse there cars. all for $4400. I figure this will a perfect project car. btw, what psi is stock gsx pushing?

Not to jack your thread or anything, but while we are on the subject of stock internals. How much hp can our 7 bolts handle before needing internals upgraded?

it is possible if you have the money and time, but it would be less stress and money if one does a 1g 6 bolt swap
