tubbing out my fender wells ???

hi i have a 68 nova that im restoring and i think in the future ill want to throw some huge wheels on it i have the car all stripped down and almost ready for paint i figured that if i can id tubb out the wheel wells now while its all apart rather then later when its all painted and reasembled and mayb later on id do all the other work that needs to be done to put big wheels on just becuase im 17 and dont have alot of money and i just want to drive it already i really havent looked at it so im not sure if i can tubb the fender wells out with out first moving the leaf springs and all i saw that in the a catalog they have the wheel wells all ready made 23 inches wide with an option of size 36 38 and 40 sizes tires i guess meaning the hieght of the fender well i was wondering what size i would want to use and is this a bigger project then i prolly think it is thanks travis

Normally you have to make the frame modifcations at the same time as the wheel tubs are installed, and yes it is a big job. Here is a link to a mini tub added to a Nova a year or two older than yours. Regardless of the year, the process is still the same. This would allow you to run up to maybe a 12 inch wide tire on your 68.

I didn't look at the links in the previous reply, but you have to keep the following in mind if you want to tub the car. You'll need frame mods, brake line mods, a fuel cell, cause once you tub, your gas tank won't fit under there any more. Then you need fuel line mods. Oh, then depending on how big of tires you want, you'll need a modified rear that's shorter. I think a lot of guys go with the Ford 9 inch, so then you have drive train mods to think about too. I thought about doing it for my Nova but decided it was too much work and too expensive. Good luck, whatever you decide.
