Wanting to add a new exhaust to a 1991 Blazer

Well, I really like my Blazer, but it feels like it's crying out for a less restrictive exhaust and a deeper more agressive exhaust note.

I called Midas and spoke to them about getting a flowmaster muffler put on. I explained to the guy that I wanted a nice deep rich mellow tone that wasn't loud and raspy like alot of the truck/suv ones that I have heard.

He recommended the Super 40.... but on flowmaster's website, it sounded really loud and not really what I wanted.

I was kind of leaning towards either the Delta 40 or the SUV one. Has anyone heard a flowmaster on the 4.3L non-vortec and think it sounded really good?

and.... on the note of the exhaust... how should I have it. according to the books, the stock exhaust is 2in off the header, then 2.5 into the cat, 2.5 out of the cat, then 2.5 into the muffler, and 2.25 out of the muffler.

if I do get a muffler replacement, should I go 2.5 in, 2.5 out, or keep it as stock as possible??

thanks for all the help guru's.

I have a flowmaster on my Vortec (dont think it really matters when it comes to exhaust) and it sounds like a small block V8 when it is at lower RPMs. What kind you get is you preference....... of course the 50 series is going to be pretty mellow while the 40 series is going to be louder. There are a lot less baffles on the 40 series. Whatever one you decide to get im sure you will be happy with a flowmaster.......

If you wanna make it easy on yourself (and if you are going to be installing it yourself) try and keep the measurements as close as you can to stock specs (they got em to where they fit right)....... it makes it alot easier if you are just going to be using clamps to put your muffler in. If you are going to put all new piping in then go for whatever you want.

which flowmaster do you have on it? would there be much of a difference between the vortec and non vortec v6??

last but not least, have any sound bytes so I could hear it before I bought it? :)

Ha ha the funny thing about it is that I have no idea at all what kind of flowmaster it is because i bought the car with it already on there. The bad thing about it is that the muffler has no markings of any kind no serial number or anything it only says flowmaster on it (if there was a serial number it probably wore off, or is encrusted with dirt)

I can try and find out again as for a sound clip ill try and see what i can do about that

I have 40 flowmaster and i love it. From what other people tell me its preety loud but i don't mind it at all. Alot of people talk about the "Ravin" mufflers you may wanna do a lil homework on them.

I've got a friend with the delta 40....in my opinion its a little loud inside, but the guy that drives it likes it.

I think thats the same as mine, I only notice inside noise when its cold right around 2500 RPM its preety deep and if i down shift i'll here it "Gurrgle" when i give it some gas i here the engine more than the exhaust

Ithought the Delta's were supposed to be quieter inside, than the super 40's....

Don't get flowmaster, get something that is less restrictive and allows for better flow.

Hey Sniper , nice BMG , get to carry it on the job?
I have some noname brand mufflers and true duals on my 89er , running an Edelbrock 4 barrel and performer intake . It has great low end rumble without any raspy sound at higher RPMs . I will look under it in the morn to see if I can see any make or model number . Rob

The delta 40 is supposed to resonate less than the original, or super for that matter i guess. The flowmaster i think does post some of the worst flow numbers but its my favorite sounding from the outside, and it sounds good on the 4.3 vortec....just kinda loud for my tastes inside.
A lot of people like the ravins as hockey said, i have no idea what they sound like.

So.... by getting a flowmaster, I would actually be hurting the performance of my Blazer.....

I know www.exhaustsoundclips.com (http://www.exhaustsoundclips.com) has a blazer with a vforce pro muffler on it and it sounds pretty good.

I might have to give midas a call and see what they can get for me. I hope it's not too loud and overbearing. if these mufflers won't destroy my performance by eliminating the needed backpressure.

now just what is the propper muffler to get. I'll go 2.5/2.5 but which offset?

center inlet, offset outlet.

Cool, now if I can just get that, then buy whatever I can to increase her acceleration and reduce the sluggish boggyness that she has. I was on the highway trying to accelerate in her, and she had nothing. she is geared so low for towing, she has no get up and go. damn towing package......

but I still love her.
