Something Stupid

I have a 1996 Camry 4 cyl. I hooked the battery up backwards while jumping it the other day (UGH!) and now it won't run. I have replaced the 100 amp alternator fuse and now everything seems to work other than the radio and the fact that it will not run. It turns cranks but will not turn over. Can anyone tell me what else it could be. Thanks

You may have fried the ignition coil. Go to the Autozone website. They have online manuals that tell you how to troubleshoot this. Basically, see if there's spark at the plugs and make sure the coils are receiving power and producing power. Or...??..if you have a fusable link coming off your + battery terminal, it may be fried. May be irrelevent. I think nothing would work if it fried. Not sure.

Stupid? Ya but we've all been there. Did the same thing on a 72 cougar years ago. Luckily, that was in the days when engineers concentrated on drinkin beer instead of designing auto electrics. Didn't harm a thing. Battery got a little hot and smokey. Let us in on the fix

You could have fried the ECU. If you can find someone willing to lend you their car's ECU (same model as yours, of course), try swapping it.
