Crank Position Sensor ?

Does the crank position sensor have to be hooked up for a 1978 530I to run. I can not find where it plugs into. I have the wire from the crank sensor that comes up to the top of the motor with a 3 prong plug but can not find anything to pug it into. I can't get my injectors to work, thinking this might be my problem
