97 k2500 step bars

I bought a set of chrome step bars from a neighbor for a 97 c/k with a third door thinking they would fit. The problem is that they don't. The passenger side is just a bit to long and I haven't tried the driver side yet. Was wondering if anyone else has encountsered anything like this or if I am just the dumb one for buying them. Does anyone know if there is a bracket or adapter for them at all? Any help is greatly appreciated.
