Help...I have a 95 4.0 Explorer that won't hardly run. Feels like it is only running on 3 or 4 cylinders and is not driveable. The crankcase smells like it has fuel in it.....I thought it was the pressure regulator, so I replaced that, with no change. New plugs....wires....have checked firing order. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Rick

I would guess a leaking fuel injector - and you have a new pressure regulator, so you know that high fuel pressure is not the cause. You may have gotten a clue when you pulled your old plugs - was one of them covered in deposits? You may also have gas on the plug in the bad cylinder after it sits overnite, or be able to smell gas in the bad cylinder.

I'm not the one that changed the plugs so I'm not sure how bad they were. I guess that will be my next step. It feels like it is running worse than just having one cylinder down, but I could easily be mistaken about that. I can't imagine that more than one injector would go bad at the same time. I'm not having to rely on this for transportation right now, so I am just messing around with it in my spare time. I'll let you know what I find and appreciate your response.
