Im sure this topic has been talked about many o time, however, this is very important to me. I was planing o purchasing either a 96-98 gsx or gst-conv. Well one item that plagues me is the notorious crankwalk that iv been hearing about. It is my understanding that a bearing is scraping up against the crankshaft causing play.
My questions r this:
-- if i do get crankwalk, do i need to replace the motor or can i replace the bearings (obviously gonna wear out again)
-- how long hard is it take to replace the bearingings (i think there 8 dollars per bearing)
-- If it can be replaced... how can u tell ur starting to get crankwalk?
-- is there a point where it will be damaged beyond repair if i dont catch it early?
Thanx for any/all responses given.

There is no proven fix for crankwalk except to switch to a 1G engine (yes i know, .001% chance for a 1G to walk). Your best bet is to get the best warranty that you can get, and they will replace the block.

There is no remedy for crankwalk that i know of except rebuilding. The whole crankshaft actually moves forward if im not mistaken. I do know one symptom of crankwalk. Cut the wheel to the left all the way and go around in circles, if the clutch depresses itself, there is a problem...I know there is other ways to tell if you have the walk or getting it, I just dont remember all of them b/c I dont have my GSX anymore. It's very rare to get it if you do the numbers. I never got it...
