how to check and change 5 speed tranny fluid ?

Isnt it like 2.5 quarts? You fill it up until it over flows.
To change just unbolt the drain plug on the bottom and let drain totally. Then refill until it over flows. You may have to take off the wheel to get to the filler

IIRC you have to pull an axle out to fill it. you just keep adding untill it is full

No there's a drain plug and a fill plug.
On my trans (gsx s possibly different) There are two plugs. One drain plug (huge 24mm) the other is a fill plug (says oil on it 17mm) take out the fillplug, the take out the drain plug (it will drain faster). My car took 2.3qts (some say 2.1 either way you need to buy 3 qts...) you put the drain plug back on and fill via the fill plug hole, you'll need to get a 1/2" hose, and attach it to a funnel and fill the trans till it come out the fill hole. Should be fairly similar on your car.

Mine only has one hole for draining AND filling... So do the 95-96's and 97-99's have different setups for the plugs or something?

Are you sure? Cause i think they ae the same. You're fill plug says oil on it, the drain plug is the biggest bolt on the trans (like i said 24mm)

Hmmm... I'm looking in my manual here and I see what you mean now how there are two plugs... I'm definetly gonna have to look over my tranny again when I get it back. I'll feel like a dumbass if there are two plugs on mine too. lol :p

which one did you take out? If it was the drain then how did you fill it? if it was the fill how did you drain it? LOL that sounds really confusing...

Hehe... Must have been the fill one on the side, cause I just jacked the back up so freakin high and drained almost everything out of it. lol It was quite the sight. I was thinkin to myself the whole time, man theres something fucked up here... I'm thinkin I completely didn't see the drain plug... No damn clue how I missed it though... lol
