Looking for some help with a 92' 3.0 that been drinking lots of water. NO LEAKS ANYWHERE, lots of vapor coming out the exhaust even after warming up. Pulled the heads off hopeing to find a bad head gasket but no such luck, everything looks good. Also looking for a combustion chamber that was super clean like normally when there is a water leak, nothing. The only odd thing that I did find was that one exhaust valve was a nice light tan color and all the others were carbon black. Any ideas would be great.
Thanks,
Rich

If you still have the heads off, have them checked for cracks. Especially the one with the odd looking valve.

That was my thought will have them pressure tested. Is there any history of this type of thing with this motor???? Not real famaliar with Ford products, helping out a neighbor. No water in the oil so I can only assume that we are losing it on the top end somewhere, just surprised for the amount of water it is using that there was nothing obvious. Even the the exhaust manifolds showed no differences between the two.

There is no history of this sort of thing with this motor. The original 3.0 plain old 2 valves per cylinder was a great engine. I have owned many taureses with this engine and know of quite a few others with one, never heard of any problems. That being said yours may have been badly overheated at some time or may have been just been a bad head. If thats what your problem is, keep us posted.

when the car is cold, open up the ratiator cap and then start the engine, look in the cap and check to see if it is bubbling. If it is you likely have a cracked head, block, or you might have missed a crack in the head gasket, i have this same problem on my 94' taurus. It is usually caused by massive overheating. and is VERY expensive to have fixed.

Thanks for the replys guys, I'm leaning towards the a cracked head since everything in the bottom end looks good. No water in the cylinders, head gaskets look good, no water in the oil. My neighbor tells me that this motor was overheated a couple times by his wife. I'm thinking we got a crack above the exhaust valve that is different colored, that's why none showing up in the cylinders, just pushing right the exhaust. He said when it was running that it would puddle coming out the tailpipe.
