I'd check to see if the lower intake manifold gasket needs to be replaced. They're a common weak point in the 3.4L engines.

I agree in a worse case scenario it could be the lower intake gaskets.
Also, anyone ever notice how flaky the radiator caps are on the plastic reservoir. Hard to put on and get off?? So I'd recommend checking to make sure the cap is installed properly and tight. The overflow vent works off that cap when cooling system pressure exceeds 15 psi.
Finally, the cooling system may just need the air bled out especially since the thermostat was replaced.

LOL, I've actually broke 2 of them and it is a biotch to screw on and off...

Definitely check the cap, after I changed my LIM gaskets and thermostat on my 2000 3.4 the coolant kept coming out of the overflow tube on the reservoir. I bought a new cap and realized how bad the old one was. The rubber o-ring was stretched out on my old one and sealing nothing. Only 6 or 7 bucks to replace.

Thank -you to all of you unfortunatley it is the gasket! but more unfortunate is neither myself or my husband are mechnically inclined to fix the problems ourselves...and for all you other alero owners....i have also lost the controls of the a/c fans also being fixed, and something with the hazzard lights were causing my blinkers to malfunction. So all in all my advice is keep you wallet well stocked with cash because your going to need it!!!!
Thanks for all your help again.

OKay i just had to keep this post up to date!
well after replacing the intake gasket the car was still blowing collant...so the dealer then decicided it was the thermostat we had just replaced (it was "sticking")...well we were still blowing coolant to the point of the car shutting itself down because the coolant was shorting out the whole electrical system. So yet for the fifth time we took tha damn car back in....well this time they said it was the head gaskets...i was fumming!
Two weeks later the car started dripping another type of fluid....to say the least we were fed up w the car.....
I am now a proud owner of a dodge dakota 4x4 and loving everyminute of it!!!!:grinyes:
To all alero owners out thereGET RID OF THEM BEFORE THEY BLOW!!!!
