I have just purchased a 2000 Taurus wagon with the 24 valve 3.0 with 34000 miles. I would like to change the plugs. The front three are simple, but the back three look like a problem. It looks like the intake has to be removed in order to get to the back plugs. What is the best way to do this? Also, when I took the ends of the front plugs off, they were wet and had rust stain on them.
The "well" where the plugs are had a small amount of water in them. I blew them out before removing the plugs, and the outside of the plugs were rusty. I knew the previous owners, and this car was always dealer serviced, and is in super condition. I want to know if the back plugs will have the same problem, thats the reason for wanting to change the plugs at 34000 miles.

you either have to take the intake manifold off or the windshield cowl off.
Some people say they can reach them without doing either, but I think they have serpents for hands.

I have done it twice to my 2000 Duratec.
The 2000 has Coil on plug and you have to take the bolt that holds the coil on off I think it is an 8 or 10 mm
You DO NOT HAVE TO TAKE THE COWL OR INTAKE OFF.
You have to do the back ones by feel with a close quarters 3/8 drive ratchet and a 6" extension and a sparkplug socket.
I dont have serpents for hands I am a big guy with big hands
People are always taking the intake off and then they have a leak of some type because they didnt put it back together right.
If you want to take the intake off that is fine but you do not have to do it
