Electric Window Stuck Down

I've got a 1998 1.8 Si. My drivers side electric window decided to stay down on a particularly cold day last week!! Not an electric problem as it comes up about an inch then goes back down and i can hear the motor running. There is a crunching sound when i try to move it as well. Think it could be a regulator problem?? Can anybody confirm or otherwise if they think this may be the problem?

Regulator could have popped a rivet or spot weld. Window could be binding in track. Worth a try - squirt a bunch of silicone spray lube (walmart or auto store has it) in the felt track - my windows operated smoothly after I did.

Also, could be gears broken or motor barely working in the gearbox/motor assy. Motors can be cleaned and you may get more time out of them - brushes and commutator. Motor separates from gearbox. Plastic gears cannot be fixed...gotta buy a whole new gearbox/motor assy

You gotta pull the door panel to look...you may be able to slide glass up and prop a 1x2 in to hold it closed. This is provided that crunch you hear isn't cracked glass or the regulator isn't bent and binding itself. Probably has 2 pop rivets thru holes in the glass to hold glass to upper regulator track. You can drill those rivets out and then prop window up. Then get a regulator to replace damaged one.

Danger! --- regulators have springs that tear human tissue when you remove the gearbox/motor assy from the regulator...you must drill a hole thru the regulator arms and insert a bolt prior to gearbox removal to avoid a scissors action.
