Megan Racing Short Throw Shifter Install...

I just post this review on Dsmtuner.. But I thought I would share another "Ahh Shit" finding...

Last summer I bought one of these Megan Racing Downpipes for my GSX & did a write up for it in the 'Bolt On' section... I guess I didn't learn my lession....

This thing is a POS. It's exactly the same design as a B&M short shifter but poorly developed. I printed off the install instructions for the B&M shifter off RRE website, get everything apart just fine, installed some shifter bushings from Energy Suspension, and Dsmlink... But this shifter was imposable.

The Pivot Shoulder was to large for the Shifter Pivot, I thought a little grease and some finagling would do, but it wouldn't slide in. I then used a hammer to drive it through the bearing doing nothing... It just left in-prints of the bearings on the Shoulder.. Obviously this piece was not machined correctly. Eventually I got fed up with messing around with it and just took half of the roller bearings out of the Shifter Pivot and slid it through and continued to connect it to the Megan (B&M Knock off) Shifter...

The last straw for me was the flange nut de-threading itself while trying to tighten the Shifter Piviot & Pivot Shoulder to the Shifter... I couldn't get the nut back off, so I had to use the spare nut (stock nut) to chase it down the thread so I would feel comfortable with it not coming off any time it felt like it.

Moral of this post. Megan Racing Short Shifter is a POS! Cost $40 on-line from various vendors.. This is what it looks like... It's up to you if you want to buy it and take half the bearings or grind the Shifter Pivot down for it to fit & not use the flanged nut that comes with the packaging..... Just consider your-selfs warned..:D

Lots of people have said this thing works great on tuners. Some of them did say that you had to shave one side a little though. I think there's a couple different manufacturers of these things.

I scored a b&m for 75 off ebay. It was used but in perfectly good shape. I highly recommend the real thing. Yes it's more expensive but it's piece of mind. My friend has one of those ebay short throws and has similar problems to what you are describing. Your not alone.

Wow I had no idea they could screw up a short shifter that bad...

I've heard that even the really cheap Ebay shifters were of better quality than that thing.
