Aftermarket CD changer

My mother wants to put an aftermarket CD changer (FM modulated) in her '00 Malibu, but was told by the Best Buy installer that this would make the AM radio lose its reception. She often listens to talk radio on AM, so this would definitely be a factor. Is this accurate? I have a modulated cd changer in one of my cars and the AM is fine...
