1987 Dodge B250 Van

My fuel gauge does not work and I would like to know how to repair it? Is there a sensor in the fuel tank?

I have an '86, but I was considering an '87 before the owner said the fuel gauge was busted and it would need a new sending unit. I think that's a sesor of some type.
