This is the procedure for resetting the dashboard Air Bag warning light.
This information came from the '99 Maxima factory service manual.
Open the driver's door. Note the rubber covered button, a button which is
pressed by the door when the door is closed. This is the Driver's door
switch (DDS).
Turn the ignition from OFF to ON. Press the DDS at least 5 times within 7
seconds after turning the ignition switch ON. Turn the ignition OFF.
Close the driver's door. Start the engine.
Possible causes for this warning light to go on include...
- a fault with the Air Bag.
- abnormally low voltage in the electrical system due to a weak battery.
- a maladjusted door striker plate such that the door does not close properly,
the DDS is jiggled on off constantly as you drive.
If this reset procedure is not successful, or if the warning light returns,
there is a SRS system fault which should be handled by your dealer.

Hi Tymah,
Want to pick your brain.............this procedure is not working for me. Do you think the fault that has occured is re-occuring and causing the light to not stop flashing ?
In concept, my understanding that this procedure must work at least immediately, as the flashing light means a fault has occured but nit a permanent problem. A permanent failure would be a constant light, no ?
Any ideas appreciated.
FYI: the falshing had occured 3 months ago, and the dealer turned it off and told me the passenger side sensor had a fault, this the flashing light. Do you think the sensor is now permanently bad ? (but the light wouldbe steady in that instance )
anyway, please hare with me what you know.
Thanks !!

Hi tymah123. I have a 1997 Nissan Cefiro which is used as a taxi in Christchurch NZ. Just a quick note to let you know that I tried your method of reset and it worked fine. Thanks for the info.

...All reset: take batt off for ½hour or more. (compare to 65$) ...its pfrofitable also after MAF cleanup etc: all preset values will be replaced, possibly a great pwr gain.
Also, if working around airbags, take batt off ½h before the job, opening panels, connectors.
