My wife has a 2001 GA SE,with the 2.4 ,4 cyl.It has 109000 miles on it and I'm getting ready to take it in to have it's first tune up on Monday.I'm torn as to spending the extra money to have the timing chain replaced while it's in the shop. The wife drives about 70 miles round trip to work everyday. How long are the chains supposed to last, and what kind of damage,if any,Can I expect if it does go??Thanks in advance for the help!!

There is no interval for a timing chain on this engine, at that mileage on a well maintained car it shouldn't be an issue.

When I changed the head on my 95 I changed the timing chain, had to take it off anyway. It's always had synthetic oil, and with 235k miles on it the guides were showing no signs of wear at all. It all comes down to maintenance, specifically how often the oil was changed.

you need to think about replacing chain at this time - most of the time it will
start rattling before it breaks - if the chain breaks it will bend all valves
12 years gm tech - not all engines will bend valves, such as gm engine in
most sunfires 2.2
