True Flow Air Intake Systems

Does anyone have one of these? Any comments on them?

They got a good write up in Trucks magazine.

Well lets put it this way.
After market air filters can viod warranty. Just ask your dealer.
Your truck already has one of the best OEM air filter systems allready installed on it.
A new ac-delco air filter at regular air filter change intervals or more often under real dust conditions is all you really need.
I never did see a real good foam type filter.
One backfire or cough and it is all over with.

Hmmmm..I've heard there's three types of lies: white lies, bold face lies and statistics. Statistics can often be made to say what you want them to say. I read the test mentioned above. It was nicely packaged up to prove one main point, that of air flow capibility versis dirt contamination. It did a nice job of that..or at least until the spin after the test stating the horsepower/flow/dirt...etc. The test only showed flow factors, but no performance tests, just claims and biased statements that inceased air flow does not contribute to performance. Yeah...Right!!!!
I won't make any claims about that beyond this point. One thing I will say is that after market does not automatically void a warrenty, unless it can be shown that the product contributed to the particular problem being addressed. That is the law. A manufacturer has to show the air filter caused the problem. Again, I won't speculate beyond that. What I can say is that I've personaaly have not heard of my particular product contributing to said damage (definately not my truck). On should be careful what they use and should research it and be mindful of any modification. Hmmmmmm. :nono:

I installed one in my truck and like it. The pedal has more response, u can fill the increase in horsepower, and got 1 mpg increase. I added a throttle body spacer today don't know if that is going to make a differnce. If my truck goes in for warrenty on the engine or air flow i will remove it to be on the safe side.

I am and they can show and prove it and will back it up with a lawyers by the trainload. :grinyes: :lol:

That is a very good point and a very good law. The law does give consumers a lot of rights to service and us aftermarket parts on their cars and trucks.
But the after market parts have to meat OEM specs.
I will not say a K&N filter is not a good filter but it has been proven by the manufactures to cause drivability problems from improper installation and improper service that can lead to engine damage and other problems.
They have even issued TSB’s on it and can legally void the warranty if one is installed on your vehicle. And they have a trainload of lawyers to back them up on it.
It may be your dealer call on it. But if you have a rod knocking or a stopped up cat or other major problems you had better leave your K&N at home before taking the car in for warranty.

You can call your dealer and see where they stand on it.

This is unrelated to the subject of thread but i have to ask Rollingbones when he painted his cover and what with? any problems with the heat under the hood, no blistering or pealing of the paint or anything?

Unfortunately MT2500 is right. It is mostly up to the dealer's discretion. Some dealers will modify your vehicle for you while others won't even touch an even slightly modified vehicle.

OK, well warranty and all aside, I was mainly wondering about performance. I ordered one today so should have it within the week, so we'll see how it does. I may get the truck Dyno'd before and after the install. I'll be selling my K&N filter if anyone is interested...

If you get it tested on dyno please post back results.
Clean your K&N before test to give it a fair chance with it and if you get a chance or can test it with a good clean OEM Delco-AC air filter to.
I sure would like to see the results of dyno test.

Do the dyno before and then give the truck time to "learn" the True Air Flow.

Simple physics will tell you trying to get air through a small fast bend is harder than a large smooth bend. Worst case keep the stock filter and just use the new bends and straight tube.

I like the system and did gain some SOTP feel.

i like my k&n....simply because it works well and its paid for :D

Why dont some manufacture just come out with an airbox that has 2 stock filters? Easy way to double your capacity with common filters! Must be too easy and simple.
