Hey, I have a 2005 Chevy Silverado LS EXT Cab 4x4, and have the stock speakers (not Bose) and am looking to get a good system in here, but not to knowledgable on this kind of stuff. So any help or suggestions would be appreciated... Looking basically for some good speakers, I believe I have the 6 speaker package, I'm also looking to get some subs and an amp. Looking to spend probably a little over a $1000, as I'm sure having a truck includes lots of wires/kits/harnesses etc. Also are the pre-made boxes from like circuit city and best buy worth buying? I fingured they'd be the same other than you couldn't customize them, but generally for subs are they still considered good?

well, you dont need 6 speakers. a good set of components up front and maybe some decent rear speakers will do the job. give us some info. what size are the stock speakers and what kind of music do you listen to? what kind of bass are you looking for from your substage? are you looking to hit high numbers or want good sound quality? are you looking to flex you doors or just want something to bring out the quality of the music? how much room do you have (l x w x h)? how much room are you willing to give up?

i think for most car manufacturers, the "6 speaker system" usually is just factory coaxials (or dual cones) in the rear and factory components in the front
but for the orig. poster, like germany said tell us what your goals are here.. do you want it so that you have great sound (more of your $ going into the frontstage, less on the sub).. or are you looking for a ground pounding sub system and just some speakers that can keep up (more $ on subs, less on speakers)
no dont buy best buys (or circuit citys) boxes. build one yourself. its easy. or even if youre too lazy to want to try that then we can find you soemthing better than their stuff for cheaper.

I ended up going to Best Buy since they had a decent deal going with Sony 12" Subs/Amp/Box for about $350, Alpine face for about $200 and Alpine/Pioneer speakers for about another $200.
Question though, because they didn't have the Subs/Amps I wanted I went with that deal, are these pretty good for what they are? I listen to mostly rock and occasionally some rap so I need more bass sometimes and less when I listen to rock, so far they sound pretty good, but since I have 30 days to upgrade I may do so if their is better equipment for what I'm looking for. Not bad for a first system in my truck, but like I said I have 30 days to upgrade, and I don't have to pay for them to reinstall, so any suggestions on any of this stuff price is still pretty open as like I said I can return the stuff for up to 30 days and the guy said reinstall would be free just the difference in the upgrade.

if it satisfies you then more power to you. just be aware that you will probably want more later on. i wish you would have read the stickies on this forum before you bought.

yeah usually the process goes research--->purchase.. not the other way around..
itll sound better than the stock system id hope.. but you spent a lto of unnecessary money buying everything at a retail store.. and youll probably want to trade soon..
but on a good note i like your head unit :)

Main reason is I'm new to installing systems, let alone into a truck and without very many smaller audio stores, lack of people who could do them for me I went into Best Buy. I know I payed more, but for the time being and lack of knowledge/time I just went for it.
Now I read a little of the sticky threads, and so far from the selection BB has would a 2 channel or mono amp be better for this system, with maybe Power Acoustik/Rockford? Then maybe Rockford 12" Subs?
Also, how are Alpine/Pioneer for the speakers?

the loudest thing you will get at best buy is power acoustik but they sound like shit. you pretty much dug yourself a hole. just figure out what best buy has that suits your wants and go with it till you can come up with about two grand for a really good system.

What should I upgrade and to what brands? Like I said, lack of installation knowledge and time is what led to me going with what I did, I do plan to upgrade in the future and would like suggestions on what I should look for later on...

My best buy carries the alpine type-r's id say they get louder and sound a hell of a lot better than any power acoustik, but like i said in a previous post sounds like a monkey slapping its ass. Like andon said they should sound better but you will be wanting more very soon.

if you look at the stickies on this forum there are brands under the highly recommeded section that are in bold. look out for new stuff from these companies.

type Rs are the shit.. however.. theyre more expensive and they require a shitton more power than those sonys and theres where price will really go up.. especially at best buy where they dont even cary amps big enough for the Rs.
do they still carry the other alpine subs they were type Es i think or Type Ss hah i worked there and cant remember.. anways ive heard those in sevceral installs sounding pretty decent.
i wouldve left your stock rears and spent the extra money on your front stage.. the fronts are the most important.

Ebay my friends you can get 2 for a little more than the price of one. 500 isnt to bad to power 300 min would hit pretty hard. like 600-1000 watt amp would be bad ass.

Yeah, I've decided to bring back the subs/amp back to BB, I'll probably do the same to the speakers, but not sure yet. Been looking on Ebay, and they have some really nice stuff, although not to sure if it's legit or not. Like an amp on there says retails at $799, but selling for $250. Is their any way to tell which ones are actually worth looking in to, or anyone know of any sites that have decent prices and reliable?

yeah just look for high feedback (liek over 97%).. high volume sales.. buy it now prices (watch otu for shipping prices) and legit info on the products..
ebay is a great tool for car audio.
i think the amp i got was like that.. almost 750 retail (thought i doubt anybody would actually sell for that price) and 265 shipped to me.
speaking of which i might be selling it if youre interested in getting into some power.** its in great shape not used long. pm me if curious abotu it
**and before anybody is tryign to flame me for the power comment, 1300-1600 rms is a lot for a first timer no doubt. :)

Ah, def might be interested. Question though, I was talking to a couple guys at work and they were saying for the high end stuff that they have on ebay like Phoenix Gold, Diamond Audio, etc which I've seen for some amazing prices that it'd be too much bass for my truck and probably blow windows and shit, so I dunno if anyone else has a Silverado and could tell me generally what's the limit on what you could go, or if their is even a limit, but any help on that is appreciated.
I'm gonna see what I can do, but I already have about 1500 + whatever I get back from BB so I'm open to suggestions on anything. :grinyes:

hahahah oh mannn dont listen to local shops.. please.. theyre almost always full of shit..
no youre not gonna blow your windows out. i think youll have to be upwards of liek 160db for that kinda thing to start happening... and youre not gonna get there easily thats for damn sure. dont worry abotu it go as loud as you want (just worry abotu your hearing if anything.. you only get one set of hearing nerves haha)
but with a limit like that you can afford a pretty decent little system thats for sure. let us knwo how you want to spend it and we'll guide you along the way.

They were guys from work, the brands I was asking about they were saying were comp shit, so that's why it'd blow my windows or whatever being so much bass, but since I never dealt with really high end stuff and am still new to audio in general, figured I'd ask here to double check, just in case.
Anyway, I listen to about 50/50 for rock/rap, so at times I need more bass, other times not so much. Pretty much I like to listen to my music loud and get it as clear as possible, and with rap clear and with decent amount of bass to back it up.
I'm pretty much open to brands right now as I'm still new and haven't really heard much of a variety, just basing things on people's opinions right now.
I'd like to do component speakers in front/back with a decent amp, and then some good subs with an amp to that obviously, since I have a truck space isn't really much of a problem, although I have the fold down back seat so I need a box that would work underneath or at least not as visible as just putting on top of seat.
So basically looking for a powerful system that can handle rock and rap pretty equally or at least so I can adjust accordingly when I listen to either one.
Um, dunno what else you need, but if their are any other questions I'll answer as best I can.

From searching on ebay -
Front -Boston Acoustics 6.5" Pro60 - $299
Rear - Undecided on rear door speakers need 4 X 6 though if anyone has suggestions.
Amp - Not sure, is it better to get one really powerful one to use on both, or better to get two seperate?
Subs - Looking at JL Audio 12W6V2 ($320 Each), Rockford Fosgate P312D4 Stage 3 ($270 For Pair) -Dunno how legit it is, but meh I'll list it, or Phoenix Gold TI12D ($325 Each)
Like I said my spending limit is probably gonna be about $1500 or so, might even bump up to $2000 if I needed to. So this is generally what I'm looking at, if anyone has any other suggestions, or stuff that would be better for what I want to do please link me. Thanks.

Nice choices, im pretty sure you can scrap the rockfords cause there not that great unless you want to hand out alot more for the power series. The jl is nice but a better one can be had for about the same price look at the REaudio SX, or SE, or if you want to keep it mainstream maybe a alpine type-r. AS for amp are you asking one for each sub and the speakers or 2 seperate ones. I would say look into a mono block d class amp for the subs and a 4 channel for the speakers. They do have 4x6 plates with is a little 3.5-4 inch speaker and a tweeter for rear fill should be better than nothing i know infinity makes some so does mb quart, just for rear fill so they dont have to be the best.
For the guys at work its almost impossible to blow out a window, not impossible almost ive seen videos of trucks with 155+ db with stock glass and all it does is move with the bass. 1500-2000 is a decent amount to put into a system.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if I got a decent amp it'd be enough for speakers and subs, but I'm assuming the only way to get the best sound would be one amp for speakers, and another for the subs like you were suggesting?
If so I saw a Phoenix Gold 8.04 - 4 channel amp for about $160, and a mono 15.01 for about $250.
I saw the type R subs, but they also had the type X, anyone have these or know anything about them? I also saw some MB Quart, Phoenix Gold, JL Audio, Boston Acoustics, and Eclipse Subs for around my price range. So really it'd just be basing off of opinions on which are the best overall - quality and price wise. So keep the suggestions coming. :grinyes:

right not at elementaldesings.com there is a sale. 2 13kv.2 D4 subs and a NINE.2X amp for 450. that and a prefab 1 cube per sub sealed box with about 50 bucks for wiring and you have a pretty sweet substage. nothing too loud and great SQ. you could even go with 13ov.2s and a NINE.1 and spend about a thousand bucks. this would leave you with 500-1000 dollars on a frontstage. If you already have the alpine h/u you doing good. spend 500 on a set of focal utopia components and get a 4 channel amp. that would be a pretty sweet setup. its oozing with SQ
