Hey all, I picked up an 85 CRX 5 speed the other day for $460, and I'm a little confused about it. I looked up the VIN number, it lists it as a Made in Japan DX 1500cc engine model 3 door hatchback, however the motor under the hood clearly says 12-valve SOHC. It's carb'd, not FI. I drove it back from the place I got it (about 10 miles) and it seemed very good, fast and 10 dollars almost filled it up. I'm just looking for a starter import tuner to mess with, but most of my friends who are into the scene think that this car cant exist unless someone did it aftermarket but Im sure its factory, the engine has 100,000 on it and it looks pretty good i mean def. used but nothing bad looking. Anyway, I wanted to do this car up and was wondering if anyone has ever heard of an 85 CRX with a 1500cc engine that was Carb's and 12-valve not 8. Thanks a million.:)

sounds normal to me. th 84-87 DX was carb'd 1.5l, 12 valve with aux. CVCC valve. the HF model was 8 valve i believe, at least the early ones were.

Sounds normal to me too.
Look at the blue tag on the radiator support above the passenger side headlight, this is ID# for the motor that originally came in your car. Then check the 1" square on the front of the engine block under the cylinder head next to the transmission. If the numbers on these 2 locations match, you still have the oroginal motor in your car.
I'm betting they match.
