4x4 engaged light staying on!

I have a 95 jimmy with 170,000 miles on it.Four wheel drive works fine.Comes out of four wheel drive when shifter is moved,but the light shows it's in 4 wheel.Don't know if the hubs are still locked in or not.Any suggestions?Good luck!
