Yea!!! I finished one! Seriously, this build, at just over a month from open the box to completion today, is the quickest I've ever done, save for snap tight kits of my yesterday. This car is for my friend's Sweet 16: she likes Camaros, I had one on hand, and she's been asking me if some day I'd build her a car. Soooo...:naughty:

This is a milestone build for me, I'll be sorta sad to part with it, as it's the first time I've done wiring (Except 4 plug wires on a Civic), the second time I've clear coated, and the first time polishing. This build aslo gave me fits, because stuff just went wrong! The finish ended up being smooth, but not shiny, because I think I sanded and polished through the 3 coats of clear. Stuff fell off daily, becuase none of my glue seemed to bond correctly. I got superglue on the windshield, ended up polishing it off, the fuzzy dice took 5+ attempts before it stayed in one piece, the engine would not fit with the headers on (so I left 'em off :frown: :shakehead ), and I lost the rear struts and the engine bay braces. But even with all this, I think it turned out pretty nice. Sorry about the poor quality pics...

Happy Birthday!!!

Sadly, I missed the date by about a week, and while she maintains that she didn't want anything (how typical  ) I'm still ticked I couldn't send it on time. But there were nights where it was midnight, I was frustrated out of my mind and i knew that if I went any farther I'd break or ruin something. So now it's finished, tied to the base, and almost ready to be shipped:

for a lot of first's, this is amazing. the interior is flawless and looks so real. the engine is a gem and looks like a pic in a brochure. no wonder it was hard to let go. super job!

Looks good, great detail. I wouldn't ship it with the hood up, though...a tip is to wrap the model and base in plastic bags for shock absorbtion.

Haha, it always turns out that when you are intending to build a model for someone it turns out to be your best ever and you hate to part with it.

Build looks great, keep up the good work!

Thanks everybody! Yeah, I'll have to part with it tomorrow morning (right now I have it on my shelf LOL). I'll strap the car to base in four places with tape (two pieces, sticky side together so there's no residue) and strap the hood down and tape the prop to the base. I'll cover it with a plastic bag, fill the case with packaging peanuts and then secure the case to the base. Then I'll wrap it in bubble wrap and Birthday paper and stick 'er in a box full of peanuts... It should hold up well. The thing I'm mostly worried about is her twin sisters--little monsters!!!

Oh no! My mom forgot to ship it today! This late in the game I guess one more day doesn't really matter, but still... :headshake

I'll let you know when she recieves it and what the reaction is!

All right! She got it and loves it! Absolutely loves it, even if the side mirror and one of the dice fell off (curse Krazy Glue!!! :cya:)... and she said her little sisters already "took a peek" at it.. ooh I shudder to think what would happen if it weren't tied down to the base! :frown:

Sooo... she's happy, so I'm happy, sooooo... let's build another! As soon as I finish all the other waiting projects.... :shakehead

We used to live in the same town before she moved and she would look at my collection and she said I should build her one sometime. So no, not really, but if 300 miles didn't seperate us now she would  I think it's time to don my missionary garb and convert someone to the scale world! :evillol:

BTW, the custom plates scored major Brownie points...:grinyes:

Great to hear she likes it mate. How'd you do the plates anyway? Just off that online plate maker then printed onto a decal sheet or what? The PRO396 plates came off my Chevelle and I wouldn't mind some custom ones for it.

Yeah, that's about it. ACME plate maker, selected 1998 (newest) Oregon plates, typed in what I wanted. After it displayed I copied and pasted it to Word (put the screen at 70%, that's almost the size of real sheet of paper) and minimized it, comparing it to the plate frame. I printed it with best resolution on the Testor's decal papaer and used the bonder spray. I'm sold on that paper now, acts just like kit decals. If my printer were better quality they'd even look the part... So if you've got a decent Inkjet I'd encourage you to try this paper.

Thanks for all the response everyone!
