I have a 96 ga se with an automatic trans 145,000 miles. I just had it inspected in December after the inspection my ABS light, Check Engine light and seatbelt light came on. When I'am driving between about 50-65mph. the whole car jolts around. This only happens when I give it some gas (to pass or change lanes). As soon as i let off the gas it stops, and/or if i put the pedal to the floor it stops. I went to Autozone and the obd says I have a misfire on cyl. #4. It feels more like a tranny problem though. If anyone has any info that can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

p0304 code? How many miles on the plugs and wires, this is your primary problem. The abs is a seperate issue and needs to be scanned with an abs function scanner.

I got about 70,000 on the plugs and wires. I had the motor rebuilt at about 70,000 but i used the original injectors also.

I have a 96 grand am gt 2.4L, and I had the same problems of the engine shuddering upon gradual acceleration on speeds aroun 45-60mph, and I just found the probelm. A couple of nights ago, my car would start but then it quit afetr the check engine light flashed on and off for about 5 seconds, then it went low rpms and quit. I had it towed in, and found out that my spark plugs were shot. Earlier on in November, I had a fuel pressure regualtor replaced, and I guess when all the gas got forced into the combustion chamer, it messed up the spark plugs. So, just thought I'd let you know. I would have your checked out.

pull the spark plug out, if it is wet, you need to checked plug for crack, wire
for high resistance, and check coil tower for rust and resistance - need ohm
meter and spark tester, a must for propar vehicle diagnosis, not exspensive tools, if plug is not wet or fouled poss injector or pcm problem

Update...
I just got another diagostics and found out it was the coil packs. They were like all scratched and worn down, causing there to be a problem with the sparking. So, I would definately check yours out. But it sucks becasue there are 2 of them and they are $100 a piece for parts, plus the coil housing for it is $100, plus labor....so yeah it sucks!
