The car occasionally makes a rubbing sound when you turn the wheel all the way(Also you can hear the Power Steering Pump when u turn all the way)
2 Mechanics check It one found nothing the other made me put the ball joints first then told me my Rack & Pinion WTF!!! Help guys what could It be??

And the car on the first turn of the key after bout 10 sec will start or if you turn it 1st for 3 sec then let go and turn it again It'll start right up???
When the car Is on the fuel pump sounds louder than usual???

The car has 162,000 and just made It from NY to Fl Incident free no warning lights on and runs excellent Help!!!:banghead:

Mine makes a real load groan when you cut the wheel to the stop and back up sometimes, and I've yet to find it. It's not like that is it?

The part about starting it needs to be phrased differently, I don't follow what you're saying.

The streering prob Is kinda loud but then goes away.

The Starting Prob.

You go to start the car and when you turn the key the 1st time you'll hold there for about 4 seconds then let go cause It won't start but right away If you turn the key again It'll start like normal.

Or when you first go to start It If you hold the key for about 7 to 10 seconds It'll start. and the I think you cann hear the fuel pump a little louder than normal.

Mine will crank for several seconds without starting, then start right up on the next try, like you're describing, but it happens maybe once every 50 starts or more. It's done that since it was new.

Of course since you never know when it's gonna happen, I can't figure out why it happens. And it always starts right up on the next try, so it doesn't continue long enough to get a bead on it.

A long time ago I read a service bulletin for 2.8-3.1 engines (the earlier version) that described that exact problem. I remember it said it had something to do with the ECM loosing it's place on it's count of the crank position sensor's reading, causing it to fudge the timing. The older ones would even sometimes backfire through the intake when it happened.

I always assumed it was probably a similar issue with these, and since it seems harmless, I've never looked into it any closer.

However you might be having issues with your fuel pump. It's interesting that you mention hearing it louder than normal, because mine is so quiet, I can't hear it if I try, unless it's dead silent in the car as I first turn the key over in the morning.

I can't offer any advice about the power steering noise without hearing it. It's normal to hear some noise when the wheel hits the stop. That when the pressure is highest and the pump is working hardest. If you ever see one with a pinhole in a high pressure line, fluid just kinda piddles out, but when you crank it to the stop it sprays out in a long stream.

If the pump is really howling like they do when low on fluid, then something is wrong. I wonder why they think the rack is suspect? Did you ask?

Anyway. Chevy, with that many miles, you're gonna have some weird noises and glitches. You just gotta weed out what's crucial and what's just kind of annoying. It not a Honda Accord ;)

I have all kind of strange scrunching and grunts in the front end, especially when it real cold out, but as a former state vehicle safety inspector, I've looked it over many times, and concluded that it's just noise. There's nothing wrong there.
