I have a 96 Sierra Z-71 that just turned over 135,000 miles this past week. I am ready to do some preventative maintenance work in the spring, to keep this thing purring. My list of items is below, I'm wondering if I should check anthing else besides those items.
Thanks!
Jason
-Oil/Filter Change
-New Air Filter
-Replace Rear End/Axle Fluid (I don't know when that was done last, so I'm going to do it just to be safe)
-Rotate Tires
-Lube/Grease Areas That Need It
-Replace The Passenger Side Mirror Motor (the drivers side works just fine, but the pass. side doesn't work when I want to adjust it, I have to do it by hand)
Thanks!

I'd flush/replace the engine coolant, change the fuel filter, change the plugs and wires (with ac delco parts), flush the transmission (automatics), run sum Sea Foam treatment through the fuel tank, engine oil (b/f oil change), and run 1 can through the PVC vacuum hose too, replace the PCV valve, and have the tires rotated and rebalanced....oh I'd also replace the serp belt (ac delco again) if that hasn't been done in the last 40k miles. :grinyes:

Actually, I should have listed all the items that were done in the past year that I've had it :banghead: , including the fuel filter, done back in November;the transmission was changed about 5,000 miles ago, and I do plan on getting that done again during inspection in the fall...plugs and wires were replaced in June of last year, the tires are brand new, installed in November, and were balanced and aligned. Do I really need to re-balance them already since they were done about 3,000 miles ago?
According to the noting on the fan shroud that the previous owner made, the coolant was done at 89,000 miles. While on that subject, should I have the mechanic flush the heater core out too, or would he do that with the coolant flush all together?
Serp belt was replaced the 2nd day I had it...it was really worn down to the grits and was on the verge of snapping apart sooner or later.

Ur tires should be rotated every 6k and rebalanced & rotated every 12k. A coolant flush service will clean and restore the ENTIRE system.

Thanks for your responses so far guys...I was wondering if there is anything I should look out for when I change the rear end fluid--I'm already going to look for metal shavings and chips. I guess it would also be a good idea to scrape the old gasket off the cover and replace it with a new one (if there is already one)--I think my fill plug is stripped somehow so I'm going to have to figure out a way to get it out before I start getting to far ahead. BTW, my diff. doesn't have a drain plug so I'm probably going to have to unbolt the whole cover and do it that way.

UPDATE: I replaced the rear diff. fluid today-all went well-except I had to run out and get 2 more quarts since I didn't have enough around ( I thought I would have enough, but I guess not). I also thoroughly cleaned the inside of the cover and the magnetic washer like-thing inside it. I also sanded and painted the outside of the cover (I thought might as well, while it was off). The hardest part was getting the new fluid container situated in the fill hole, I had to get around some brake lines and stuff but all in all it wasn't that bad of a job. Now I just have to check from time to time that nothing's leaking out of it. It's good for another 15,000 miles!!
