Dave Hill, the former Corvette chief engineer, said the following in the April 2006 issue of Corvette Magazine:
"We had titanium rods on the street [for the new Z06], but they didn't have them validated for racing. They'll be validated for 24-hour races by the time we go to Le Mans next year, though."

http://www.theraceforum.com/images/forum/3329-10-3.jpg
The following is from the January 2006 issue of Sports Car International on page 35:
"The net result is a fully trimmed engine that weighs 458 pounds, only 10 more than the 6.0-liter LS2."
Also, BMW's M5 Product Information Guide says that the 5.0 liter 500 hp (SAE net) V-10 weighs 240 kg/529 lbs.

Mike Hezemans grabs FIA GT pole
5-6-2006
The first 20-minute qualifying session for the FIA GT Championship saw Mike Hezemans claim pole position in the nr 4 GLPK Carsport Corvette C6, ahead of the Zakspeed Saleen S7 and the Phoenix Racing Aston Martin DBR9. The session was wet, although the rain had eased slightly. "It was all down to the tyres," Mike said of his Michelin-clad car. "They were so good, there was so much grip, it was fantastic. The track stayed very wet, and there was so much traffic, but I managed to get one free lap."

Johnny O'Connell in his # 3 C6-R lost the race at Lime Rock Park recently to Pedro Lamy in his factory Aston Martin DBR9 by 0.033 seconds.
The Corvettes were carrying 199 more pounds than the Aston Martins, running smaller intake restrictors, and using smaller fuel tanks as a result of "balance of performance" adjustments mandated by the sanctioning body.

2nd place for Luc Alphand in the 1,000 km of Nürburgring
press release
The third race in the Le Mans Series European Championship was completed with
success by the Luc Alphand Aventures (LAA) team, which finished second in the
LMGT1 category. Luc Alphand, Jérôme Policand and Patrice Goueslard relayed each
other at the wheel of the Corvette (http://www.lmsr.net/jul132.html#) C-5R throughout the six-hour race at the Nürburgring
track in Germany.
The LAA team continues to turn in solid performances in the field of endurance auto
racing. Despite the intense heat, the entire team perfectly managed the 1,000 km race.
Jérôme and Patrice were able to double their driving times and optimize their
performance thanks to the Corvette’s air-conditioning system.
“We are relieved, since we weren’t sure we would ever cross the finish line,” said
official LAA driver Patrice Goueslard. “On top of that, I burst a tire because of a stone,
six laps from the last relay. I had to manage this factor as well and find the right
balance since the track was very abrasive. It was extremely tight between the first five
cars in the LMGT1 category, and we finished only 10 seconds behind the official Aston
Martin… It’s great; we are more than satisfied!”
After his first race in the LMS Championship, Luc Alphand is confident about the
team’s position in the rankings. “Yesterday I had some tough moments during
qualifying, when I unfortunately hit one of the prototypes and ended up in the gravel.
Obviously I went to bed very frustrated but today we more than made up for it. We
improved our time and had no incidents. We made the podium once again and I am
really thrilled. We managed the race perfectly.”
Reliability is the key to this performance. The technical team did a great job of
managing the race since the Corvette C-5R crossed the finish line with less than one
lap’s worth of fuel in the tank, after refueling only five times instead of six like its
competitors.
There are still two races left in the 2006 LMS European Championships, and the
pressure is on. The LAA team is currently in third place in the overall rankings, well
positioned to achieve its objectives. Next rendezvous: late August at Donington in the
UK.

In the program I have, It says the C6-R's engine only has 590hp. Is this true? I thought it would be a lot faster in GT1. I watched miller motorsports race on CBS. Vettes didn't do so good against the Astons.

They had the following three restrictions in Utah:
- 1 mm smaller intake air restrictors (34 less hp)
- 10 liter smaller fuel tank
- 199 more pounds than the non-factory Aston Martin DBR9s
"The restrictions added to the Corvette C6.Rs at Salt Lake City have been rescinded. The Corvettes will race under the same rules as they had at Lime Rock, which means a greater fuel capacity and a larger diameter on its air restrictor." [They will still have 199 pound penalty].
