Color Sand and Buff

What the hell does that mean/do? 1 Day Paint and Body says they can give me a clear coat for $200 used for people who want to color sand and buff. Is it worth it to go for it, or will I be fine without it?

ANybody that can prep and paint a car in a day, I definately would not trust them to paint my car... There are many stages involved in painting cars, sanding, masking, sealing, primering and then painting... Drying times are critical to a good quality paint job. They probably use one hell of an accelerator to dry the paint quicker which weakens the paint.. You will probably end up with paint allover your moldings and tires and in places you don't want paint... The shit will bubble, crack and peel, I can almost guarantee it!!! Save the extra money and get quality, someplace that takes pride in their work, and not so much the amount of cars they can do in a week... A good paint job, should take about 14-21 days, any less than that and you will be back at the body shop every 14-21 days getting it fixed and redone...

I had my car go in there for body work and a paint job. We started a little after noon and ended at about 3 am. If you start eary in the morning you can have it all done by the evening or night. Drying time before you can tape it and stuff is only about 45 minutes. And if they have a heat booth, then it's tons faster. There's tons of 1 day shops that do very nice jobs.

Now are you asking if you should get the clear coat so you can do that stuff? Or are you asking about doing that stuff to your car? Anyways, you should get clear coat, it will make your car shine more and protect it from the elements. Color sanding and buffing just basically buffs your car up and makes it shine even more after it's painted. You can do it as often and as many times as you want. :)

well, u can keep doing it until you sand through the clear coat.

14-21 days my ass, a complete strip and repaint can be done by one person in a week

I never said it couldnt be done in a week!!!! Don't read too much into the statement otherwise you wont see where I'm going with this!!

sorry ive seen high qaulity paints jobs completed in the most 2 days, and they are excellent. i dunno where you get ur car painted 14-21 days? i hope you meant hours.

Ok, I use to work at a quick paint place for about a year (sometime back that is), and yes, you can have a car preped and painted in a matter of 3 days, and another 4-7 days to fully cure the paint, thats due to the paint is made to be baked, and yes, even without all the accelerater, and also they make base/clear that is made for this procedure to, but, single stage sucks ass to cut/buff. Also ive been working around high priced base/clear paints, and my buddy is getting his truck painted, and it took about a week alone to paint it (give or take a day) due to it being like a 5 or 6 stage house of color paint. either way, the paint doesnt matter, its all about the prep job, and the quality of the work being done. and cutting means to sand the car with a very fine grit paper *1200+ grit* and buffing it out to reduce the orange-peel effect to give that high gloss mirrored finish. I know someone is going to complain over what i just said but oh well, ive been around and in this business this for awhile, and i havent had any problems yet.
