4 Wheel Drive Problems

Anyone here have any issues with their PU seemingly droping into 4 wheel drive at low speeds on turns...? The selector is in 2wd but it seems to engage and disengage the front diff at low speeds while turning. I get frustrated and somp the gas pedel and it seems to disengage and won't do it for awhile but sooner or later it drops back in if the conditions are correct

Any ideas?

Thanks!

What year is your truck? Also, do you know if it's just the diff. or the transfer case too? Is it electronic shift or manual on the transfer case?

bighillman,

Sorry about that.... I guess it's easier to troubleshoot if you have all the info!

It's a 99 K-1500. And I think it's both the transfer and front diff. Both are electronic shift/engagement I assume? I used to work as a line mechanic some 18 years ago and I know that the General used to use vacume to operate the shift/engagement but I understand it's all electronic now. Anyway the reason that I think it's both is while I had the vehicle off the ground for other maintenence I decided to start it up and place it in gear and I had noticed that the front driveline was rotating at an equal rate relative to the rear driveline. So it leads me to believe that the transfer is engaged and the front diff is locking and unlocking if the correct conditions are met.
Any idea about why this may be? I have a friend that is an instructor at the local Community College and he indicated that the electronic motors are VERY expensive if I determine that they are the cause and suggested that I may just want to live with it if it ends up that they are the cause.

Suggestions?

Thanks,
Tom
