Cost: about an hour and a half, a little elbow grease, and a spring compressor. Having a shop do it is just a way for them to get some easy and free money.

Don't you just need something like this for compressing the spring? I've got a couple of these in my garage for holding up a storage bin, and just laying around.

I would change them myself and just take the car for alignment. Around here they would charge at least $200 for the change plus alignment. If you do it yourself you can put the extra $200 you save towards some better set of shocks/springs.

probably, but you can just borrow a pair from like auto zone or advanced auto or whatever you have near you for free
