Dear All:
My ABS light on my '95 325 has been on for about a month. Took it into the dealer who says it's a bad hydraulic pump. Cost $1,700 to replace, and that's just the cost of the part !!!!
I'm a little suspicious. Is this a common part to fail? How can I tell if I'm being told the truth? Would it be hard to find this part at a wrecking yard? Anyone else have this problem?

I wasn't suspicious about the price, I was suspicious about whether the pump was really the problem.
Any advice?

Had the same thing happen in June on my 95 M3, which was certified for warranty until 12-01. Everyone says it is rare for the Hydraulic unit to fail and that is why you can't find used ones. I got 2nd opinions and still had to buy a new unit. Dealer just installed it today and called to say that this one also has a bad pump within the unit. I have spent $4,800 on service since June 24th and still don't have it fixed. I have also sent messages to BMW NA since it was only 6 months out of warrranty, but they refused to do anything, which is why we have so many independent BMW repair shops making money from us suckers.
I am determined to post as many messages as I can to warn owners that BMW doesn't care.
