01 GP different wiper problem

I've seen lots of posts for the wipers stopping in the 12:00 position and I am experiencing that as well as a different problem. The wipers don't want to stop and intermittent doesn't work. When you turn them on, from the intermittent all the way through the low position, they go constantly on low. High works ok as high. When you turn them to the off position, they go for about another 8-10 cycles and then stop (sometimes in the correct position and sometimes in the 12:00 position). If you activate the spring loaded mist which should do one cycle, they also go about 9 or 10 cycles before shutting off. Tapping or jiggling the wiper switch has no effect, they just keep going for about 10 cycles before shutting off. The whole range of intermittent acts as constantly on low. Any ideas? This just started happening today - about 95K on the car and I live in Portland Oregon area so wipers are a way of life. Also in all the descriptions of how to fix the wipers stopping in the upright position, I don't understand where this tab is, does anyone have a picture? Maybe the 2001 is different already. Sometimes they go down correctly but most of the time they don't. The other problem I described above is a solid problem - happens every time.

Sounds like the wiper motor pulse control board. My girlfriends Jimmy was acting similarly and the board was bad.

If the problem is the delay board, and it's a good chance that it is, the AC-Delco part # is 88958396, and runs $30 + s/h. Dealer retail is $57.83. Check the wiper arm where it attaches to the wiper motor itself, there is a pin that shears off that may be your issue. If that is the case, it's a dealer only part and the whole crank arm needs to be replaced (GM# 12494832, retail $64.90)

Thanks for the responses to my post. I took mine apart and on the circuit board for the motor, there was a broken mechanical spring contact that would have been difficult to repair. I picked up a low mileage used wiper motor assembly from a local auto wrecker for $40 and installed it tonite - works great now. Thanks again, you were both right about the controller board.
