Kicking around the thought.

Im still kicking around the thought of Military service. I wanted to be a Marine, but the job I was looking at I am too tall for (M1 crew, 6'1" or less....I dont fit in...literally :icon16: )

So I have been thinking of other choices.

Such as Medic, a Marine Corpman. Which would mean I would be in the Navy because the Corps dont have their own medics, they use the Navy's. Also EOD, which is out of the question with the Marines because I would need to be re-inlisting after 4 years, and I only plan on doing 4 years or maby a lil less. (Can always re-enlist if I like it.)

I also looked into the Army, as Ranger Medical officer. I would need to get in better shape to do this for sure, but it is still another choice I have been looking into.

Dont make any assumptions, I want to go in to get the experiences the Military can offer. I want to see so many different places, and be in such extreme situations. Also it helps me get into Public Saftey (ie Police, Fire).

Anyone got any thoughts, ideas, sugestions?

i wouldnt limit myself just to the corp or navy, also look into army and air, if you dont really want to totally get into it, i think you can enlist in the reserve then if you want to you can apply for full active duty,< but i would have to have someone else's opinion on that, like a recuiter<who lie by the way.

but i am proud that there are guys like you who want to do this. i unfortunatly cant due to leg problems. if i did ild get sent home with a med discharge (which isnt a good nor bad conduct discharge) in boot camp. drill sergent(i know i misspelled that) friend of mine didnt even know, he and i would work out together, ild keep pace with him, and some of his "grunts" mostly a couple of guys too far from home and got some short leave. but one day he dropped by and i had iced my knee and he told me no matter how well i perform on the tests ild get sent home soon as they saw that.

yah, I have a doubble heart murmer, but it is cleared by 2 cardiologists.

I cant fly (too tall once again) anything except cargo planes so its not a big issue. But my body would pass a check.

And I did look into the Army, mostly the thing that I found intresting was becoming a Ranger Medic (or weapons specalist...blow stuff up)

Not sure about the Army's EOD

And believe me, I know recruiters lie. I have always had friends in all branches (excpet the air force...)

Like he said you could do reserves and they would also pay for some of your schooling(been awhile since I checked into it so I don't remember how much) It would also be best to check with all 4 branches so you can decide which one has the best offer for you.
Alas I can't join due to a drug charge when I was a juvenile.

well, Ive been looking into it for some time. I have alot of friends in the reserves...and frankly I would rather be active. They way it ends up for them sucks, and I don't plan on going to school and finishing...not my thing...unfortunally.

Airforce seemed to have nothing for me. Army has a possability, Marines offer the experiences and the pride that goes with it, but no jobs I want/can hack. I would love to be recon, but I am not nearly that fit.
Navy has great benifits, and alot to offer. I personally hate the sailor getup...but whatever. A medic is a job I would want, along with EOD (basically bomb squad). Good knowlage to have in life anyway.

I say become a ranger medical officer, I mean it sounds kick ass and really rangers are badass to begin with and you're the guy that has to keep em in good health.

well, same with the Corpsman. I would be with marines, or Force recon, or seals, or somethin.

Course I could be with Seabees or hell...on base *that would suck*

I heard being a SEAL sucks, that all they are is intel gathering and that they consider a mission trully being accomplished is if they didnt shoot one bullet and no one knew they went in. So I really wouldnt want to be that..

I dont know then dude.. just dont be a sailor, I mean I got nothing against the Navy except I could seriously not wear that damn sailor suit...

I hear ya on that! hahahaha...oh man...

Becoming a ranger sounds good...just wouldnt want something to go wrong and instead end up a grunt freezing my ass off at night baking in the day on some god forsaken tower wating for a shell to get me....

ive always kicked around the thought of joining to... i dont think i will though, but id go for rangers if i did, i mean im a good athlete and everything. thats what id go for if i were you, but its hard as fuck to get in from what i hear. what about being on a submarine? i always thought that would be cool

stuck in a sub underwater with a bunch of dudes sitting around...looking at computers. No chance in hell of doing anything but sitting in the sub untill you port somewhere.

I want the experience of going places and seeing crazy things. I mean, ive seen crazy stuff, but I want to see stuff I normally wouldnt in my lifetime.

I heard rangers are alot easier to get into than it used to be...no clue.

A lot of military people would consider it a victory if they didn't have to fire a bullet, shooting other people isn't exactly natural and no one should have to kill another man for any reason. War is just a necessary evil sometimes. But good luck in whatever you decide.

Good luck with yor decision, picking out what you want to do in the military is only half the battle...lol

i agree, there is a saying "the better man is the one who doesnt fight, but dissolves the situation nonetheless." then again there is also "diplomicy: a distraction just long enough for you to find a bigger stick."

did you also think about recon? a friend of mine is recon, and the stories he told were fricken scary, they would see the enemy recon team but not shoot due to the hot zone they were in. if it were me :seal, army sniper/recon,or marine infantry. or possibly a mech to work on some of those apache's/

None of those are just a piece of cake to get into, except mech. and infantry.:2cents:
If it were easy to get into special forces, then they wouldn't be special.

The Navy was not so bad except when we were out for 30 days it got boring. Airforce would also be a good choice.

esh...mechanic...I could do that here.

Marine Infantry sucks. You get put in with the guys who cant do anything else. You guard a tower at night when its so cold you cant move, and even if you were shot at you wouldnt grab your rifle because its metal...and colder than you are. Hell, you wouldnt be able to pull the trigger if you tried. In the daytime your digging all day to fill sandbags, or cleaning everyones rifles over and over. Dont even think about advancement also, if your Infantry your there for a reason.

Recon or SEALs I would love to do, but you have to be in way amazing shape. Also there needs to be openings. And you have to be approved to get in. I dont even know if I could get that high of a security clearence.

Sniper teams sit in one spot, the dont move.... In Iraq Marine snipers are dying because they sit in a spot for 3 days, by the thrid shells are commin in because the Insurgants know where they are.

I agree, if I never fire a shot in anger all the better. If I go im not going to go on a hunt, im going for experiences and whatever else I can get from it. Alot of jobs are easier to get if you have military experience under your belt.

Still looking into all the jobs.

Being a medic with the Navy, issued to the Marine Corps sounds good still. Save good men, still get the experiences. No standing on a damn tower all night.
