Hi guys, I'm new to the forums so I thought I would introduce myself and my truck. I have a 2000 Silverado 1500 LS with 51000 miles that I've owned for a month now and love everything about it.

Well, I've already treated the bed to a Rhino liner and I had the tires mounted. Next I'm planning to install a Westin Grill Guard and Westin Step Bars. Any suggestions would also be appreciated and thanks for the welcome.

Welcome to the Forums.. do you have the quad cab or the 3-door. I bought my 2000 LS before the quad cab came out for that model. :( But I still love my truck. Get rid of the stock air-intake. replace it with a K&N Gen II or a Airaid system.

Unfortunately, I only have a 3 door. I really wanted a 4 door but the only 4 door I could find in my price range was beat to death. I still love my 3 door though. The truck is in excellent condition and only had 1780 hours on the engine. According to carfax I'm the second owner. Does the K&N intake really makes a difference? I'm getting 21 mpg and I don't want to do anything to mess that up.

If anything it will improve it. you will get better MPG and more HP.
I also replaced the plugs with Platinum Tip Bosch +4 plugs. They are good for 100K.. I replaced mine about 4k ago. 140K miles on truck.

Hey Scrapdaddy,
Man, I need to put on a jacket just to look at the pic. of your truck. It must have been colder than a witches titty when you snapped the pic. Burrrrrrrrr!

Thanks silverado 122775 for the info. I will put a K&N filter on my list of improvements for my truck. Another improvement I'm debating about is a Nelson Tune. Has anybody done this to their truck and was it worth it?

I have heard wonderful things about Nelson Tunes, but they are very expensive! If you are looking for some real performance.. get a Nelson tune, but if you are just looking to play around a little.. get a HyperII tuner. they are about $300 depending on where you get them and you can do it yourself.

Nelson is worth every penny. You can't go wrong getting one. It increases power, and MPG at the same time. Check out www.nelsonperformance.com (http://www.nelsonperformance.com) or give Allen a call. Its also night and day difference between a tune and a handhelp programmer. Don't waste your money on a Hypertech IMO...I hated mine.

One question though.. If I am in VA, how am I suppose to get a Nelson Tune if they are in San Antonio?

mail order my man! I live in Georgia....he sends them to you inthe mail. He'll send your programmed PCM, when it arrives you swap it out, then send your old one back to him for a core. Its very simple and I must say. his customer service will be hard to beat.

Can a Nelson tune work for both better gas mileage and better performance?
