Hey guys,
Just got a call from my recruiting center and was offered a job today. So now I have today and tomorrow to either accept or decline the job offering. Now if I do accept I will be leaving on March 11th from London, Ontario and heading to St-Jean, Quebec to start my Basic Training.
I'm anxious and yet hesitant at the same time because I have a lot of things here left unfinished. I met a girl not too long ago and things have been becoming serious. She's really cool and for the amount of time we have been together I could see myself with her for the rest of my life, but this means that I am gone for the next 3-5 years and because of that I might have to break things off. I called her as soon as I got the call from the recruiting center and told her that we need to talk face to face about this.
I have a really good job now, but I don't see myself doing this for the rest of my life. Although the pay is insanely good, it's not something I see myself doing until I'm 40-50 years of age. Although I can do this if need be to stay here with her....so you see it comes back to her again.
Anyways, just wanted to let you guys know I have enjoyed all the time on AF and I will miss you guys...

it's hard when the one you love is involved. my only advice is to follow your heart. if you want to stay with her, then stay. but it's your call.

Yea, I'd be signing up as an Infantryman. My first choice was Combat Engineer but they were full and I want to do anything I can o help out in Afghanistan.
The way I see is that this IS what I want to do, now the only question is whether or not she wants to wait around for me. It is unfair on one part to ask her to wait, she shouldn't put life on pause because of me, but then again I want her to be there when I get back.
Oh and I'll probably find the time to drop in every now and again to say hi and see what's brewing in the AF pot. But you won't see me here as much as before.
Anyways thanks again guys

I'd pick your future over the girl, but that's just me.
I'd have to second this one. I was in the same situation(instead of military it was offshore welding) and I choose the girl got married and now we are divorced and I can't get that job.
Always look out for and keep yourself before others when it comes to your future.
Either way you choose hope it works out for the best.

wow, you're still on? i thought you'd have left after those other threads. well, you're stronger than i thought
anyways raz, just do what you feel is best but there are some good chances that you wont have another crack at this girl if you leave for that long but the army will probably always be open.

Don't follow your heart man, just go with it. At the time, doing something for her may seem right now, who knows. I'm not one for destiny and all, but if it's meant to be, she'll wait for you. It's not selfish to choose what you want to do with the rest of your life.

LOL, yea im chained to the barracks for at least the first 3 weeks, then after that I can leave on weekends where I will be visiting family in Quebec.
I know everyone tells me that infantry is the worst, but since I heard the Canadian army is taking control of Afghanistan, I wanted to help in any way I could...and I would be lying to myself if I didn't take this oppurtunity.

is tonio gonna leave a farewell joke?
It was a hot day in Iowa. Helga hung the wash out to dry, put a roast in the oven, then went down the street to pick up some dry cleaning.
"Gootness, it's hot," she mused to herself as she walked down Main Street.
She passed by a tavern and thought, "Vy nodt?"
So she walked in and took a seat at the bar. The bartender came up and asked her what she would like to drink.
"Ya know," Helga said, "it is so hot I tink I'll have myself zee cold beer."
The bartender asked, "Anheuser Busch?"
Helga blushed and replied, "Vell fine, tanks, und how's yer pecker?"

Good news, finally spoke to the woman about all this tonight.
Bad news, looks like things are done between us.
We had a long talk about all of this, and I came to the conclusion that it's over because we haven't been seeing eachother for very long and as much as we think we know eachother, there's still lots to go and I said that I'm not going to worry about what she's up to and having to find time to call her...I need all my focus on the task at hand.
Plus the whole thing came up where she says she's proud of me for what I'm doing, but she thinks if I wanted to I could have done more to stay here with her...I let her know that I don't change my goals for no one.
So we're not on the best of terms right now, and of the 2 weeks left...I'm really not in the mood to see her anymore.
What a shitty day
