1990 Miata Engine

My little car's engine is getting old and tired (has over 270,000 km). The time is coming were I will have decide what to do. I called an engine rebuilder and he said it would cost close to $3,000 CDN to R&R - this is a little beyond my budget. Can anyone suggest where I could start looking for engines or my best course of action.

There are lots of salvage engines out there, and you could do a 1.8 swap if you are mechanically inclined.
